ORANGE, CA (March 10, 2014) – Freshman Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Preparatory School) got his first ever collegiate match-clinching win as the Vassar College men's tennis team picked up its first win of its California spring break trip with a 5-4 victory over Chapman University on Monday afternoon.

Litsky defeated Troy Akin of the Panthers (2-3) in the only singles bout that went into a third set. With the match in a standstill of 4-4, the No. 2 singles player presented his greatest performance of his match, earning a final score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.

"It was my greatest moment so far this season. It really meant a lot to win that important of a match and have all of my teammates and coaches cheering me on from the bleachers," Litsky said. "I would do anything to relive that moment again."

Sophomores Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) and Sha Huang (Austin, TX/Saint Stephens Episcopal) got things rolling for the Brewers (6-4, 1-1 Liberty League) with an 8-5 doubles win over Justin Thompson and Zach Resnick at No. 3. Litsky and junior Christian Lyon (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) earned a close, 8-6 victory at No. 2 against Charlie Werman and Sam Mitledorf.

All three of Chapman's singles points were won with the first three matches to finish at No. 4, No. 1 and No. 3, giving the Panthers a 4-2 lead. Udine won the next singles match at No. 5 with a 6-3, 7-5 toppling of Mitledorf.

Freshman Juan Felipe Laso (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio American De Quito) took No. 6 by defeated Hunter Morris 6-4, 6-1, tying the match 4-4 and setting up Litsky for the comeback win, individually and for the Brewers.

"We needed a full team effort to beat a good team and that is what we got," said head coach Alex Wong. "We had three close doubles matches and it was great that we pulled out two of them. The first wave of singles didn't go our way but the bottom part of our lineup fought through and kept us in the match. Laso played great and had a decisive win and Litski came from a set behind to win the match for us. Great effort by him to keep his composure and keep fighting all the way to the end. Really nice team win for us."

The Brewers will next face #20 nationally-ranked California Lutheran University on Tuesday, March 11 at 1:00 pm (Pacific Time) in Thousand Oaks, CA.
