A Look at the Brewers
The Brewers (5-2, 1-0 Liberty League) recently finished the University of Mary Washington Tournament with a 1-2 record after defeating #20 nationally-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College, 5-4. Sophomore Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) was down 5-2 in the third set but fought back to claim the 7-5 win at No. 3 singles and clinched the win for the Brewers. Vassar fell 9-0 to #28 Mary Washington and 8-1 to Denison University. Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Preparatory School) was the only Brewer to win against Denison.

The Vassar No. 2 spot in the lineup leads the way with a combined season record of 5-1. Litsky contributes 3-1 of that record while Christian Lyon (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) and Phelps add the other two wins. Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) has a 2-2 history at No. 1 singles while Litsky adds a win and a loss to the team total. Vassar's doubles squads are 4-3 at No. 1, 5-2 at No. 2 and 4-3 at No.3 on the year.

A Look at the Judges
Brandeis recently finished its February trip to California with a 7-2 victory over Occidental College. The Judges got out to a 3-0 lead in doubles when No. 2 and No. 3 earned 8-2 wins. No. 3 of Michael Arguello and Danny Lubarsky had to fight for a 9-8 (7-1) win. Brandeis went on to win four straight-set matches, clinching the win.

No. 1 doubles is undefeated this season with a 3-0 record. The No. 3 team of Brian Granoff and Michael Secular are 2-1 while the duo of Jeff Cherkin and Alec Siegel are 1-2 at No. 2. The only places in the singles lineup that have winning records are No. 2 and No. 6 with 2-1 marks each. Lubarsky is the only singles player with an overall winning season of 2-1.

Against Brandeis All-Time
The Brewers and the Judges first met on March 2 of last year. Brandeis pulled out the 5-4 win with a third-set, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 No. 6 win over last year's senior, Josh Kessler. Siegel picked up the victory.

A Look at the Thoroughbreds
The #25 ranked Thoroughbreds defeated Liberty League opponent Union College, opening their spring schedule, 9-0. Union failed to take a set away from the host Skidmore team.

Against Skidmore All-Time
The Thoroughbreds and Brewers have been battling since 1988. Skidmore has the distinct 29-6 record. Vassar broke its losing streak of five by defeating the visiting Thoroughbreds in last year's Liberty League Championships, 5-4.

We Were No. 3 and Now We're No. 1
Cooper and Phelps battled Brandeis as the No. 3 doubles duo. This was before Cooper switched to No. 1 with then senior, Andrew Guzick and Phelps stayed at No. 3 with Kessler. The now sophomore pair defeated Secular and Siegel 8-4 last year.

Winning With a Partner and By Ourselves
The Brewers have posted a 14-9 doubles record this year, including dual matches and tournament play. They have a current 25-19 singles record, 22-16 in dual meetings.

Average? Guess Again
Out of the nine lineup spots between singles and doubles, the Brewers only have one place that has a below .500 record. No. 4 singles is 2-4 (.333).

Up Next
The Brewers will next travel to California for their spring break training trip with a match against Chapman University on Monday, March 10 at 11:00 am. Other teams slotted for the trip are California Lutheran University, University of Rochester (at Pomona College) and Whittier College.
