MADISON, NJ (February 21, 2014) -- The Vassar College men's fencing team traveled to Drew University, and eked a 14-13 victory over the hosting Rangers in the final dual meet of the season for the Brewers.
Vassar didn't take all of its starters to the match, but still got the result it needed while also helping
John Arden gain valuable matches needed to qualify for NCAA Regionals in the beginning of March.
Arden responded with three wins in sabre, but two epee fencers were clutch for Vassar when it mattered.
Roberto Maiocco and
Nico Mongillo won the last two bouts of the afternoon to help Vassar pull out the victory. In fact, with the score tied at 13 and Maiocco down 4-3 in the final bout, he found two touches in the final 20 seconds to lift the Brewers past Drew.
Vassar will be back in action tomorrow at the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Championships at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA.
