Box Score PATCHOGUE, NY (November 21, 2014) – Vassar College earned its second win in three nights Friday evening, knocking off the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College-Long Island 68-56 in non-conference action from John A. Danzi Athletic Center.
The Brewers (2-2) led for the majority of the first half, though St. Joseph's took the lead shortly on a pair of occasions. With the score tied at 13, Vassar College rattled off eight straight points capped by a jumper from freshman
Samarah Cook (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow). Vassar pushed its lead up to 12 twice, before taking a 31-21 lead at the half.
Senior
Allyson Pemberton (Weston, MA/Weston) and junior
Caitlin Drakeley (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) each contributed 10 points apiece in the first half. Vassar opened the second half on an 8-0 run, fueled by four points from Pemberton, to take an 18-point advantage. SJC inched back into the contest, pulling to 11 with 14 minutes to play.
The Brewers continued to grow their lead throughout the second half, leading by as much as 20 points in the second half before settling for the 12-point victory. Vassar was able to pull away in the second half thanks to some sharp shooting, connecting on 56.7 percent from the floor (17-30).
Drakeley finished with a game-high of 23 points, hitting nine-of-14 from the field, also grabbing eight boards and dishing out four assists. Pemberton added 20 points as well, connecting on nine of her 12 shots from the floor, grabbing a team-leading eight rebounds. Freshman
Kim Romanoff (Durham, CT/Coginchaug Regional) posted four points, four boards, two steals and three assists.

Ariella Rosenthal (Mill Valley, CA/Mill Valley) contributed 10 points in her first collegiate start, and junior
Colleen O'Connell (Maywood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) posted six points as well. Vassar shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the floor, and turned the ball over just 11 times all night.
Rynese Smith paced the Golden Eagles with 13 points, while three others chalked up eight points in the loss. SJC shot 20-50 (40.0 percent) from the field, but Vassar was able to win the rebound battle, 37-30.
The Brewers are back in action in the Athletic and Fitness Center Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., taking on the Cardinals of Wesleyan University.
