Coley Clutches Women's Soccer Tournament Win In Penalty Kicks Over Haverford

    HOBOKEN, NJ (September 8, 2013) – The Vassar College women's soccer team tied, 1-1 with Haverford College during the final round of the Stevens Institute of Technology Engineering Cup. Sophomore Kamaria Coley scored the winning penalty kick as the Brewers outshot the Fords, 4-3.

    Juniors Sarah Bourenane, Kim Kogler and senior Sheeva Seyfi scored the other penalty kick goals.

    Junior Chloe Wheeler got a one-touch goal in the 22nd minute off a pass from Seyfi, giving Vassar the 1-0 lead. Haverford's Meg Boyer responded in the 34th minute when Mariah Baker sent a cross pass to her and shot from 25 yards out.

    Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Tapolsky got her first start of her collegiate career. She recorded eight saves. Robin Chernow recorded three saves for the Fords.

    Haverford outshot Vassar, 20-9 while Vassar edged the Fords in corner kicks, 5-4.

    The Brewers (2-0-1) will next host Montclair State University on Wednesday, September 11 at 4:00 pm. The Fords (0-2-2) will next host Dickinson on September 14 at 1:00 pm, opening their Centennial Conference play.

    Wheeler was named the Offensive MVP of the tournament.
