#23 Women’s Soccer Pushes Season Opening Winning Streak To Four Games

Victory features five different goal scorers

Danbury, CT – The #23 Vassar College Women's Soccer team pushed its winning streak to start the season to four games, marking the third time in program history the Brewers have won their first four contests, with an impressive 5-0 road win at Western Connecticut Wednesday night. Three different Brewers scored their first career goals, including Elena Valle (Rocky Hill, CT) who finished the game with three points.
 
The 2025 Brewers join the 1995 and 2012 teams that opened the season with 4-0 records. Wednesday's win also gives Vassar for four straight victories over Western Connecticut and six in the last seven meetings.
 
How It Happened
  • Sophomore Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) opened the scoring for Vassar at the 22:02 mark of the contest, finishing off an assist from Valle with what proved to be the game winning goal.
  • Just over 17 minutes later, First Year Sonya Franklin (Lancaster, PA) tallied for the second time this season, burying a pass from Lucy Getzin (Ithaca, NY) just over 39 minutes into the tilt.
  • Leading 2-0 at the intermission, Vassar held an 11-1 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • The Brewers went on to score three more times after halftime to produce a season-high five goals on Wednesday.
  • Valle found the back of the net for the first time in her career early in the second half to spread the Brewers' advantage to 3-0.
  • The lead grew to four goals at the 71:14 mark when sophomore Olivia Spektor (Lawrenceville, NJ) scored for the first time in her career.
  • First Year Caroline Sheehan (Springfield, IL) closed out the scoring in the game when she converted a helper from classmate Samantha Ehrenreich (Palmetto Bay, FL) in the 77th minute.
  • Vassar finished the second half with a 9-4 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
 
For The Brewers
  • Hart scored her first career game winning goal with the deciding tally on Wednesday.
  • Valle posted a goal and an assist and is the third Brewer to have at least one goal and one assist on the season.
  • Sheehan and Spektor each scored their first career goals in the victory.
  • Ehrenreich notched her first career point with an assist on the Brewers' final tally.
  • Franklin tallied for the second time in four games for Vassar.
  • Getzin picked up her first point of the season with an assist, her first career helper.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) earned the win in goal without having to make a save in just under 63 minutes worth of action.
  • Bella Stevens (Ann Arbor, MI) came on to play the final 27:19 in goal and finished with a pair of saves.
 
For The Wolves
  • Madelyn Dwyer led Western Connecticut with two shots in the game.
  • Gracen Regan made seven stops in goal in just over 76 minutes played.
  • Katherine Pease finished with two saves in the final 13:59 of the game.
 
Game Statistics
  • The Brewers held a commanding 20-5 advantage in overall shots, including a 14-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers by a 9-5 margin.
