CLAREMONT, CA (March 13, 2013) – The Vassar College #19 nationally ranked women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to #10 nationally ranked Pomona-Pitzer College on Wednesday.

Sophomores Ava Sadeghi and Samantha Schapiro won both their singles matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots while also teaming for a win at the No. 1 doubles spot. Sadeghi defeated Jamie Solomon, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 while Schaprio defeated Sammy Chao, 6-4, 6-3. The pair then defeated Chao and Kara Wang, 8-4.

The Brewers drop to 3-2 this season as they next play Caltech at 3:00 pm on March 14. Pomona jumps to 6-0 and will next face Case Western Reserve at 4:00 pm on the 14th as well.

"Ava and Sam played amazing tennis. In both singles and doubles, they both served extremely well, returned consistently and moved their opponents to open the court and finish the point,” head coach Kathy Campbell said. “They were patient, yet aggressive to finish points.  It was an impressive day of tennis for both players.”

Freshmen Lauren Stauffer and Kelsey Van Noy also went the distance in three sets today but fell in their singles matches. Van Noy dropped a 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 decision to Arjhi Padmabhan while Wang defeated Stauffer, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

“The entire Vassar team battled in every match and competed better against another top ten, nationally ranked team today,” Campbell said. “We came out playing with more confidence from the first strike today.  We continue to get better each match."
