Brewers Begin Title Defense Saturday Afternoon

Vassar in search of back-to-back conference crowns

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Tennis team begins defense of its 2025 league championship as the top-seed Saturday afternoon when it takes on either Union or Skidmore in the semifinal round of the 2026 Liberty League Championship.

A Look At The Brewers

  • Senior Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) holds a 13-3 record during the spring dual season and has won 10 straight decisions, including all six against conference rivals. Krishnan has recorded wins at three different flights for the Brewers, including a 5-0 mark at the third position and a 7-3 record at the fourth slot.
  • Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC) is 11-3 during the spring season, including a victory in each of her five conference decisions.
  • Sophomore Liya Pomfret (Berkeley, CA) is 11-6 for the Brewers and has scored wins at four different positions in the lineup.
  • Fellow sophomore Sieun Lee (Wake Forest, NC) enters Saturday's match at 10-2 and has won nine straight singles matches.
  • Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) and Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) have each won nine times to date this spring playing out of the first and second singles positions.
  • Krishnan and Kirby have teamed for a 12-3 record playing out of the second doubles position and have won each of their last nine contests.
  • McCusker and Li have amassed 10 wins out of the top doubles flight and are 8-2 in their last 10 decisions. The duo has earned Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week accolades on three occasions to date this season.
  • Lee and Sara Lippin (Chappaqua, NY) hold a perfect 9-0 third doubles record and Lippin is a perfect 17-0 in doubles play teamed with three different partners.
  • McCusker has been named the Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week twice, Lee has garnered Singles Performer of the Week accolades once and First Year Gwendolyn Gray (Montauk, NY) has picked up a Rookie of the Week citation.
 
Regular Season Results Vs. Union and Skidmore
  • Vassar swept both Union and Skidmore during the regular season, besting Union 7-0 at home on April 5 and blanking Skidmore in the regular season finale on April 25.
  • With the regular season win against the Garnet Chargers, Vassar has defeated Union 31 straight times.
  • The Brewers have won two straight decisions against Skidmore, including a 4-1 win over the Thoroughbreds in last year's championship final.
 
Recent Liberty League Championship History
  • Since the start of the 2001-02 season Vassar has appeared in 22 of the last 23 championship finals.
  • Since the start of the 2003-04 season either Vassar or Skidmore has appeared in the championship final each season with the two sides meeting for the title 18 times.
  • The Brewers won eight straight league titles from 2003-10.
  • Vassar won its first conference crown since 2010 in 2025, knocking off top-seed Skidmore 4-1.
