Brewers Advance To Ninth Straight Liberty League Championship Final

Vassar looks for second straight title on Sunday

Ithaca, NY – The Vassar College Women's Tennis team advanced to its ninth straight Liberty League Championship Final and will look to defend its 2025 league crown Sunday afternoon after blanking Skidmore 4-0 in Saturday's Liberty League Championship Semifinal. First Year Liya Pomfret (Berkeley, CA) clinched the berth into the final with a sixth singles victory.
 
Vassar records its 11th straight win with Saturday's victory and improves to 14-5 overall. Skidmore sees its season come to a close with a 6-14 overall record.
 
Doubles
  • Vassar took the decisions at the second and third doubles positions against the Thoroughbreds to open a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • Sieun Lee (Wake Forest, NC) and Sara Lippin (Chappaqua, NY) remained unbeaten on the season and improved to 10-0 after blanking their opponents from Skidmore 6-0 at the third slot.
  • Vassar's second pair of Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC) and Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) clinched the doubles point with their 10th straight victory, a 6-1 win.
 
Singles
  • The bottom half of the Vassar lineup finished off the sweep of the Thoroughbreds with straight set victories on Saturday.
  • Kirby moved the Brewers in front 2-0 after cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles win, her ninth straight singles victory.
  • The lead grew to 3-0 when Krishnan earned her team leading 14th win of the spring and 11th straight triumph. Krishnan dispatched Skidmore's Maggie English 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth position on Saturday.
  • Vassar earned its way into the championship final on Sunday after Pomfret scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the sixth flight. The win pushes Pomfret to 12-6 in the spring and give her six straight victories.

  • Vassar will take on the winner of the RPI and St. Lawrence semifinal Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
