Farley, Steinschneider Lead Men’s Fencing At Vassar Invitational Sunday

Season Stats (as of Nov. 10)

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 10, 2013) – Senior Matt Steinschneider (Fairfield, CT/Greens Farms Academy) and freshman Ry Farley (Pasadena, CA/Waverly School) each posted 16 victories on the afternoon at the Vassar Invitational Sunday afternoon in men's fencing action.

The Brewers went 3-4 on the day, earning wins over Yeshiva University 25-2, Haverford College 16-11 and Lafayette College 19-8. The Brewers got consistent contributions from all three squads, with the sabre group totaling 36 victories. The foil and epee crews each went 34-29 on the afternoon.

Vassar's best win of the afternoon came against Haverford, earning a 16-11 win thanks to some clutch play from the epee squad. Farley and Jackson Dammann (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) each picked up three wins apiece against the Fords, as the epee team earned seven of nine matches.

The sabre group was also solid against Haverford, as Kenny Lee (Whitestone, NY/Stuyvesant) had two huge wins after not fencing in the first round, and Elam Coalson (River Forest, IL/Oak Park & River Forest) won all three of his bouts to help VC to the win. Other standout performances on the day included Steinschneider winning 11 of his last 12 matches of the tournament.

Sabre fencers Zach Wilson (Rochester, NY/Allendale Columbia School) and Coalson each had three wins against Stevens, Farley won at least two bouts in six of the seven matches and Tre Artis (Jamaica, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) earned three wins against both Lafayette and Yeshiva.

For the day, five Vassar fencers had double-digit victories, as Coalson, Wilson and Dammann joined Steinschneider and Farley on the list.

Vassar will now look forward to hosting Saturday's Matt Lampell Hudson River Invite, as the Brewers will entertain Marist College, RPI, Bard College, University of Albany, Cornell University and New Paltz. Saturday's proceedings get underway at 10 a.m. in Walker Field House.
