Fencing Teams to Celebrate Senior Day Saturday at Kenyon Hall

The Brewers will honor ten seniors on Saturday.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 31, 2013) – The Vassar College men's and women's fencing teams will celebrate Senior Day at the Vassar Multi-Meet on Saturday, February 2.  The women face Hunter College, Yale, Drew University and Queens College, and the men face Yale, Hunter College, and Drew University.

Seniors Tracy Bratt, Rachelle Brown, Caitlin Clevenger, Jillian Josimovich, Katie LeClairKatharine Sweeney and Victoria Weiss will be honored on the women's team.  From the men's team, seniors Ezra Gumpel-Jones, Tavish Pegram and Alex Vastola will be honored.

Match Time:  Saturday February 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. Senior presentations will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Vassar Women's Notes: The Brewers enter the meet with a 7-15 record.  Last week at the Northeast Fencing Conference competition, LeClair led the foil squad with 14-4 record, posting a winning 38-21 record on the season. Clevenger also had a strong performance, finishing 9-6 on the day. She leads epee with a winning 38-20 record. In sabre,  Bratt leads with an 22-35 record.

Vassar Men's Notes: The Brewers enter the meet with a 9-12 record. Junior John Arden had a strong performance last Saturday at the Northeast Fencing Conference competition, earning an 8-7 record against challenging conference teams. Arden leads the sabre team with a 31-21 record. Leading epee, Pegram holds a winning 23-14 record for the season. In foil, Vastola leads with a 22-28 record.

Next Up: The Brewers travel to New York University on Thursday, February 7 for evening matches against New York University and Columbia. Fencing will start at 5 pm. 

Coach: Vassar is coached by Bruce Gillman, who has been with Vassar since the 2005-06 season.  He is a member of the United States Fencing Association and NCAA Fencing Committee.
