Sadeghi and Schapiro Advance to Doubles Semifinals In ITA Northeast Regionals

Sadeghi Also Advances in Singles to Semifinals

GENEVA, NY (September 23, 2012) – Ava Sadeghi and Samantha Schapiro advanced to the semifinal round in doubles play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional after victories both Saturday and Sunday at William Smith College.

Number one seeded Sadeghi advances to the semifinals in both doubles and in singles competition after a close quarter final set against Skidmore College's Lee Ford. Sadeghi advanced with a score of 7-6, 6-3.

Sadeghi and Schapiro will face Paige Aiello and Karisse Bendijo from the College of New Jersey in doubles play tomorrow. Sadeghi also will go head-on with Jessica Bourque of Stevens Institute of Technology in the semifinals. Sadeghi and Schapiro are now 3-0 in doubles play this season and Sadeghi is 6-2 in singles.

Sadeghi and Schapiro defeated Amelia Capuano and Christie Graf of Lebanon Valley College 5-0 (Retired) in round one of doubles competition. The team then won against Hallsey Leighton and Haley Wolf of William Smith 8-2 in round two. The duo then beat Ashley Masanto and Alison Wang of New York University 8-2 in the quarterfinal.

Sadeghi won against Graf in round one of singles 8-0 then defeated Katie Pasier of St. John Fisher College 8-0 in round two. Sadeghi defeated Robyn Baird of Skidmore 6-0, 6-4 in round three to advance to her quarterfinal set.
