FARMINGDALE, NY (March 7, 2012) – Seeking to win its third straight game to open the season, the Vassar College men's lacrosse team was with one goal of tying its contest against Farmingdale State with 4:47 to play, but the Rams scored four straight goals in the final 2:25 to secure a 13-8 victory over the Brewers on Wednesday afternoon.
Vassar, which trailed 5-2 after the first period, fought back to tie the contest 5-5 at halftime, but surrendered three straight goals for an 8-5 deficit with 4:20 to play in the third period. Twice Vassar came within a goal of evening the score, the last at 9-8, coming with 4:47 to play after a goal by senior attack
Jack Gross. Farmingdale State responded with four straight goals off the sticks of four different players to register the 13-8 victory. Rams senior attack Ryan Oswald notched the game winner 2:25 remaining in the game.
Vassar drops to 2-1 on the season, while Farmingdale State improves to 1-2. The Brewers will be back in action at Western Connecticut on March 14 for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Rams host Hartwick this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Rams tallied three straight times, including once playing a man-up, to take an 8-5 lead in the first ten minutes of the third period. Vassar fought back to come within 8-7 after freshman midfielder

Max Herman scored with 3:25 left in the third. Farmingdale's Bobby Thomas scored a minute later to push his team ahead 9-7. Gross brought Vassar within 9-8 with 4:47 to play, plenty of time left for a comeback, but the Rams called two consecutive time outs at the 3:13 and 3:09 mark. Farmingdale regrouped and scored four straight times over the final 2:25 of regulation.

Andrew Nicol made 13 saves in facing 33 shots. Senior goalie Patrick Delventhal made 10 saves against 35 shots.
Gross and Lee paced the Brewers with two goals each. Pearce had eight ground balls – the Brewers won the ground ball battle 42-33 – and he was 9 of 17 on face-offs. The Rams got three goals each from Oswald and freshman midfielder Donovan Devaney.
