NEW HAVEN, CT (February 4, 2012) -- Fencing against one of the top programs in the country and under difficult conditions before a partisan crowd, the Vassar College men's fencing team fell to Yale, 21-6, Saturday afternoon.
The Epee squad did shine for the Brewers in a winning performance. Outstanding performers for Vassar on this day were epee fencers
Nicholas Johnson who went undefeated at 3-0 and captain
Brian Rouse at 2-1.
“Johnson and Rouse were undaunted by all of the hoopla and made lots of the right kind of noise on their own,” said head coach
Bruce Gillman. For Vassar, Matthew Steinschneider added a strong win in sabre.
The Brewers drop to 13-12 on the season and will travel to Columbia in a tri-meet with New York University on February 8.
