Women's Tennis Swept By Division I Fordham 9-0

Senior Jennifer Beckerman pushed her match to a super tiebreaker.

WEST POINT, NY (February 19, 2012) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team opened the spring dual match season with a 9-0 loss to Division I foe, Fordham University, on Sunday at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center.

The Brewers (1-1) host Muhlenberg in the home-opener on Friday, February 24, at 4:00 p.m. at Walker Field House. This was Vassar's second-straight loss to Fordham following a three-season winning streak for Vassar.

Fordham swept the doubles but Vassar showed strength at the top of the singles lineup as senior Jennifer Beckerman and freshman Ava Sadeghi fell in super tiebreakers. At No. 1, Beckerman went down 6-3 to Sarah Ali but evened the score with a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker. Ali prevailed 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.

At No. 2, Sadeghi took an early lead over Angelika Dabu with a 7-4 win in the first set tiebreaker. Dabu stormed back for a 6-2 win in the second and a 10-4 win in the super tiebreaker.
