Box Score

CLINTON, NY (April 9, 2011) – The Hamilton College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead, placing Vassar in an offensive comeback position, one the Brewers couldn't quite mount, falling to the Continentals 10-4 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Steuben Field.

Down 6-1 in the early stages of the third period, the Brewers hustled to get back into the contest, getting a second goal of the game from junior attack Christopher Toffoli off an assist from junior midfielder Jeff Lee. The manageable four-goal deficit was negated by Hamilton, however, which scored the next three goals for a 9-2 lead with 8:19 to play in the game.

Vassar drops to 2-6, 0-3 in the Liberty League and will host SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday, April 13 at 4:30 p.m. on Gordon Field. Hamilton improves to 7-2, 1-2 and will face Keuka College on April 13 at 7:00 p.m.

In the loss, Vassar got a two-goal effort from Toffoli, his sixth of the season, a team-leading 12th from freshman attack Max Herman and a goal with ten seconds remaining in the contest from junior attack Jack Gross, his fifth of the season.

Hamilton, which put 36 shots on goal against senior starter Alex Tice and second half replacement freshman Andrew Nicol, got goals from five different players, including three from junior attack Henry Burchenal and two freshman midfielder Pax Anthos. Both Tice and Nichol allowed five goals, with Tice making 10 saves and Nicol six. Hamilton junior goalie Max Vaickus made six stops.

Hamilton went ahead 5-0 on goals by five different players before Toffoli got Vassar on the board with 2:46 until halftime. After Anthos put Hamilton ahead 6-1, Toffoli notched his second goal of the game off an assist from Gross. Burchenal scored two of Hamilton's next three goals for a 9-2 lead with 8:19 to play. Herman answered for Vassar just nine seconds later for Vassar's third goal of the contest, but the goal margin and time remaining were in Hamilton's favor.
