POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 2, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's lacrosse team held a 4-0 fourth quarter lead with 12:45 to play for its first ever Liberty League win Saturday afternoon, but the Clarkson University Golden Knights tied the game 4-4 with four unanswered goals in less than four minutes, and tacked on two more in the final three minutes to swipe a 6-4 victory from the Brewers at Weinberg Field. Junior attack Bryan Huff scored three of the comeback's four goals to lead the charge for Clarkson.

Vassar, which lost to Clarkson in overtime 9-8 one year ago, drops to 2-5 (0-2 Liberty) with the loss and will travel to Hamilton College next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game. Clarkson improves to 4-4 (1-1 Liberty), and will play at Potsdam State Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

Vassar scored all four of its goals in the first period, out-shooting Clarkson 14-8 in the first half and entering the break with a 4-0 lead. But the Brewers, who have a 20 man roster in comparison to Clarkson's 43, could not hold off the Golden Knights' relentless offensive attack in the final quarter. Huff broke the shutout with an unassisted goal with 12:45 to play. Two minutes later, after a slashing penalty put Clarkson up a man, Huff struck again off an assist from sophomore attack Matt McCabe to make the score 4-2 with 10:43 to play. Clarkson won the ensuing faceoff, and McCabe himself struck just 51 seconds later to make it 4-3. Clarkson yet again won the ensuing faceoff and tore down the field towards the Vassar goal, where sophomore attack Kyle Kasprzyk found Huff with a cross-net pass and easy score to make it 4-4.

The Brewers finally forced a Clarkson turnover and advanced down the field, but a shot by freshman attack Max Herman with 3:53 left was saved by Clarkson goalkeeper Pat Briggs. The Golden Knights got the game-winner from McCabe on their next possession off an assist from graduate student attack Mike Fowler, and added one more with 1:03 left to push the Brewers out of reach.

The 4-0 first-half lead for Vassar came off of two goals from senior midfielder Sam Seymour and incredible play from senior goalkeeper Alex Tice. Tice gobbled up every Clarkson offering, finishing the first half with six saves and adding six more in the third quarter alone to keep the Golden Knights off the board. Tice (0-2) finished with 14 saves on the day, but Clarkson's second-half offense would not be silenced. The Golden Knights dominated the possession in the fourth quarter, and out-shot Vassar 16-6 in the second half, including 9-2 in the final frame.

Seymour's two goals give him six on the season. Sophomore midfielder Ryan McCarthy gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game with an unassisted goal, and Seymour followed just over a minute later with his first of the game for the 2-0 lead. After a man-up goal by Seymour in the second period, Herman made it 4-0 with his team-leading tenth goal of the season with 3:42 left in the first half.

Huff's hat trick gives his a team-leading 13 goals on the year. McCabe added two goals and one assist. Briggs (1-0) was making his first start of the season in goal, and had six saves.
