CLAREMONT, CA (March 10, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team suffered a sweep at the hands of the ITA No. 6 nationally ranked Pomona-Pitzer Thursday evening at the Rogers Tennis Facility.
The No. 30 ranked Brewers (6-2) face the No. 25 ranked Trinity (TX) on Friday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. The Sagehens (4-0) play UC Santa Cruz on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
Playing singles first in this particular match, Pomona showcased its strength and depth as they took all six singles matches. For the Brewers, juniors
Joy Backer and
Jennifer Beckerman had the closest matches. Backer fell to Arthi Padmanaldran in the super-breaker 4-6, 7-5, (10-6) at No. 3 singles and Beckerman went 6-3, 6-3 to Jamie Solomon at No. 1 singles. "Both players utilized deep ground strokes and strong net play," said head coach
Kathy Campbell.
Despite being swept in doubles, the Brewer doubles teams played aggressively. "I was proud of the way that our team members fought and competed in both singles and doubles," said Campbell.
