Round 1 – Vassar 23, Cleveland State University 4

Alex Bue and sophomore
Alex Vastola both went 3-0 in this round.
Round 2 – Vassar 20, University of Detroit/Mercy 7
Vassar's last meeting with UDM was two years ago at Vassar. They had a strong foil squad then and still have one now. Despite a 2-1 run by freshman
Giovanni Zaccheo, Vassar foil lost this round 3-6. But Sabre (9-0) and epee (8-1) did not disappoint. Fischl, Arden, Rouse, and Pegram were 3-0 in this round.
Round 3 – Vassar 15, Wayne State University 12
Wayne State was the strongest team Vassar faced at the Cleveland State Invitational, boasting formidable fencers on both foil and sabre squads. Vassar foil was able to manage only three victories. Epee held up its end admirably by going an undefeated 9-0 behind great fencing by Johnson, Pegram and Rouse. Sabre only needed to steal away two victories for the team victory, but managed three, with senior Dennis D'Urso winning the deciding bout in a close match.
Round 4 – Vassar 26, Case Western Reserve University 1
Case is a club team that Vassar had never fenced before. They only managed to take one foil bout. Sabre and epee both went 9-0 with freshman epee fencer
Nico Mongillo having a breakout round at 3-0.
Round 5 – Vassar 17, University Michigan 10
The Michigan team has club status only, but it is a strong and well coached team that usually finished in the top 5 at US Club Championships every year. Vassar epee was again very strong at 7-2, Johnson and Rouse both going undefeated again. Sabre was 6-3 with Arden at 3-0 and
Dennis D'Urso 2-1. Foil had a tougher time at 4-5, but senior captain Mike D'Urso and Zaccheo were both 2-1 in this round.
