BRONX, NY (April 7, 2010) - The Vassar College men's tennis team swept Division I opponent Fordham University 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Hawthorn/ Rooney Courts.
The Brewers take a 12-1 record on the road to Williams for an 11:00 a.m. match this Saturday April 10. The Rams (6-10) will compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships April 16-18.
Vassar swept doubles to earn the single doubles point, which per Division I rules is awarded to the team that wins two of the three doubles matches.
Junior
Greg Katz clinched the victory for the Brewers with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Fordham's Alex DeRienzo at the no. 5 singles position.
Senior Captain
Michael Mattelson posted an economical 6-1, 6-1 win over Fordham's Dallas Harting at the no. 1 spot.
“The first match after a letdown like Trinity can be tough but we came out firing and didn't drop a match today.” Head Coach Ki Kroll said. “The whole team played well and we're looking forward to Williams.”
