POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 26, 2009) – On Senior Day and under mid-summer playing conditions, the Vassar men's lacrosse team put in a workmanlike performance in registering a season-ending 12-3 victory over Cazenovia College at Gordon Field. The victory, Vassar's second straight to close out the season, provides the program with a season-best six wins, surpassing the previous five win total last set in the 2001 season. 

The Brewers (6-9) scored in every period and got goals from eight different players, including a hat trick from freshman Jack Gross. Vassar scored two goals in the game's first two minutes, one from Gross and sophomore Sam Thypin-Bermeo. What appeared to be a high-scoring game didn't materialize until the second half. The Brewers went into intermission leading 5-0, getting goals from junior Sean Murray, junior Nick Cardillo and freshman Jeff Lee. 

Cazenovia had ample opportunities in the first half to cut into the Vassar lead, but failed to convert on three extra-man opportunities. That was due in large part to exceptional goal tending by sophomore Alex Tice who had three first period saves on point blank shots from the Wildcats and one second half save. 

Junior Ed Pappo replaced Tice in the second half, and allowed Cazenovia its three goals and made two saves. The Wildcats drew within 5-1 when sophomore Kyle Boland got his club on the board just seven seconds into the third period. Cazenova earned the game's last two goals, one coming from freshman Dylan West and the last by junior Gareth Fabian. 

After Boland scored for Cazenovia, the Brewers scored seven straight goals. Two of those tallies came from Gross and a pair from freshman Christopher Toffoli. Also in that scoring mix for the Brewers was sophomore Sam Seymour, junior Dave Bryant and Murray. Toffoli's second goal was assisted by freshman Jeremy Gottlieb who earned his first assist of the season. 

Vassar dominated the stat sheet, firing off a season high 53 shots versus 29 for Cazenoiva. The 63 team ground balls was second best on the season, following the 72 earned against SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday. Sophomore Zach Beauchamp, who leads the Liberty League in this category, collected 11 in the game.

Cazenovia played a trio of goalies, with freshman Alex Iannicello taking the loss in 30 minutes of action. Freshman Travis Carruthers played all but the last three minutes of the second half and allowed all seven Vassar goals. 

The Brewers were near flawless in clears, converting on 30 of 31 attempts. Cazenovia was 21 of 30. The Wildcats were forced into 36 turnovers. The Brewers committed 22 in the game.

Playing their final game for the Brewers were seniors Adam Ben-Avi, Dan Feinberg, Isaac Krull, Ross Mackenzie and Jake Miller.
