Women's Swim-Dive Downed By NYU, 174-111

NEW YORK, NY (January 31, 2009) – After beginning 2009 with two dual meet wins, the Vassar College women's swim-dive team fell to one-loss New York University on Saturday, 174-111.

The Brewers drop to 3-3 in their final dual meet of the season. Vassar will swim next at the Sprint Invitational hosted by Skidmore College on Saturday, February 7. The Violets improve to an impressive 9-1.

First-year diver Amelia Couture (Brewton, AL/T.R. Miller) recorded a personal best in the 1 Meter dive, with a score of 160.81.

Senior Emily Love (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor) and sophomore Samantha Jones (Hanover, MA/Hanover) each recorded victories against the strong Violet squad. Love won the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:11.50, while Shannon swam a winning time of 26.32 in the 50 Yard Free. Love also placed second in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:01.02). Senior Allison Koenker (Huntington Beach, CA/Marina) finished second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:13.37) and freshman Caroline Shannon (Scarsdale, NY/Hackley) placed a close second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:36.69), just .35 seconds slower than the first place finisher.
