POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Vassar College Director of Athletics and Physical Education
Michelle Walsh has announced the promotion of
Emma Meore to the Director of Sports Medicine. Meore will now oversee all sports medicine operations, manage the athletic training staff, and spearhead the strategic vision for sports medicine across the entire department.
"I am truly honored to step into the role of Director of Sports Medicine", said Meore. "I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship, encouragement, and support that I have received from colleagues across the department, whose guidance has helped shape my growth as a clinician and leader. I look forward to continuing to build a safe, supportive environment where our student-athletes can thrive both on and off the field. It's a privilege to serve this community and I am excited for what we'll accomplish together."
Meore was named the Associate Head Athletic Trainer in 2024 and quickly became a cornerstone of the sports medicine team. Over the past two years, she has elevated Vassar's operations by updating department policies and leveraging Teamworks for better efficiency. Above all, she has remained dedicated to student-athlete health and well-being.
Earlier this year, Meore was honored by the National Athletic Trainers Association – Intercollegiate Sport Medicine Council (NATA-ICSM) as the NATA-ICSM Above and Beyond Athletic Trainer award recipient and was recognized at the NATA Clinical Symposium in Philadelphia, PA on June 30. The Above and Beyond Award recognizes one athletic trainer or one instance of care in the collegiate setting for exceptional performance in athletic training or non-athletic training activities occurring in the past year. Past recipients have administered life-saving measures, developed major programs or initiatives at their institution or led service projects that have had a lasting impact on the community.
Meore came to Poughkeepsie in 2024 following her time at the Head Athletic Trainer at John Jay-CR, where she created and implemented strength, conditioning, stretching and mobility programs to prevent athletic injuries. Meore also was responsible for managing the athletic training budget, updating concussion protocols, developing emergency action plans and supervising three student interns.
Before her time at John Jay Cross River, Meore spent a year at the United States Military Academy at West Point where she was the assistant athletic trainer and was assigned to the women's volleyball and softball teams during the 2021-22 season. Meore also worked as an athletic training student in the spring of 2021 with the men's gymnastics and football squads.
Meore also worked at the University of Buffalo in 2020 with the track and field team and assisted athletes in the return to play process following stress injuries, Achilles tendon reconstruction and various musculoskeletal injuries. She also spent the 2019 season at UB with the football team and helped organize and lead student-athletes through pre-participation screenings and also performed taping, wrapping and wound closure before, during and after games and practices.
Meore also spent time in 2020 with UBMD Orthopaedics, where she collaborated with physicians, physician assistants and patients to provide patient-centered care. She also worked with Nichols School Athletics to assist with on-field evaluations and spine boarding along with evaluating patients weekly through telehealth appointments.
Meore graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in May 2020 before going on to earn her Master of Science in Athletic Training in May 2021. During her Master of Science work, she created one, three and five year goals for UB's Athletic Training Program to promote program improvement and attainment of academic excellence, which helped provide feedback on clinical and didactic experiences from a student perspective.
