Fitzgerald garners First Team honors, Lee tabbed Honorable Mention

New York, NY - The Met Basketball Writers Association announced its men's basketball All-Met Writers selections on Tuesday morning as Vassar College Men's Basketball sophomore Shea Fitzgerald was tabbed All-Met Writers First Team along with classmate Avery Lee earning All-Met Writers Honorable Mention status.

Fitzgerald collects another postseason accolade after making history as the first All-American in Vassar College Men's Basketball program history. Fitzgerald also made program history as the first All-Region selection in both D3hoops.com and NABC. Fitzgerald was named the Liberty League Player of the Year, the first since Zach Johnson in 2022, and an All-First Team Liberty League selection after leading the league in points per game with 19.7 and in free throw percentage at 88.0. Fitzgerald was an integral part of the team earning the #3 seed in the Liberty League Championship and winning 12 regular season conference games for the first time in school history. He also was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week three times this season.

Fitzgerald finished the regular season ranked in the top-75 in the country in points per game and 25th nationally in free throw percentage. Fitzgerald now holds the third highest points per game average in a single season at Vassar and holds the second highest free throw percentage mark in a single season in program history. He was also named a College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree.

Lee, who earned his first All-Met Writers nod, was named an All-Liberty League First Team selection after finishing second on the team behind the Player of the Year and teammate Fitzgerald with 15.5 points per game. Lee poured in a career-high 33 points in a victory over Union and was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week twice this season. Lee helped lead Vassar to its most regular season conference victories in a season with 12 and helped the Brewers get the #3 seed in the Liberty League Championship after being picked eighth in the preseason poll.

Vassar closed the season at 16-10 overall and earned the third seed in the Liberty League Championship with a conference record of 12-4.
