New York, NY – A trio of Vassar College Women's Basketball standouts have been honored with Metropolitan Basketball Writers Associations honors it was announced Monday afternoon. Senior
Tova Gelb (Sharon, MA) has been named First Team All-Met Writers,
Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) is a Second Team pick and
Julia Harvey (Delmar, NY) has been made a Third Team selection.
Gelb adds Monday's honor to an impressive resume in 2024-25 that also features Liberty League Player and Defensive Player of the Year, D3hoops.com Region III Player of the Year, WBCA All-American and D3hoops.com All-American honors.
Gelb paced Vassar and the Liberty League in three categories in 2024-25, leading the way in scoring (18.3), rebounding (10.4) and steals per game (2.7). Gelb shot 47.8-percent from the field as a senior and was good for 2.9 assists and just over one block per game.
Gelb scored in double-figures 25 times in 28 games and scored a single game program record 36 points against RIT on January 18, a game in which she notched her 1,000
th career point.
McDermed adds Monday's recognition to a list that includes a First Team All-Liberty League citation. McDermed led the Brewers in minutes played in 2024-25 and closed the season as the team and conference leader in assists per game with 3.5 per game.
McDermed was good for 17.5 points per game while shooting 45.1-percent from the field. McDermed scored in double-figures 23 times for the Brewers and featured a trio of 30-plus point performances. McDermed became the third Brewer in 2024-25 to score 1,000 career points with a 25-point outing against RPI on February 25.
Harvey closes a standout career adding Monday's honor to a list that includes First Team All-Liberty League, Liberty League Championship Most Outstanding Player and D3hoops.com Third Team All-Region.
Harvey led the team in three-point field goals (47) and three-point field goal percentage (33.1) and ranked second in the conference in three-pointer percentage and third in three-pointers per game. Harvey tallied double-figures in 19 games and scored her 1,000
th career point on November 12 against New Paltz.
Vassar finished the 2024-25 season at 21-7 and won the program's second straight Liberty League title.
