Greenwood, IN – Four members of the Vassar College Women's Basketball team have been honored with Academic All-District Honors from the College Sports Communicators it was announced on Tuesday. Seniors
Tova Gelb (Sharon, MA) and
Julia Harvey (Delmar, NY) as well as juniors
Maddie Ahearn (Bethlehem, PA) and
Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) earn accolades for academic and athletic excellence.
Gelb, who advances to the national ballot and is consideration for Academic All-American honors, is coming off a senior season that saw her named the Liberty League Player and Defensive Player of the Year, D3hoops.com Region III Player of the Year, a WBCA All-American and a D3hoops.com All-American. Gelb is now a two-time Academic All-District selection.
A Biology major at Vassar, Gelb averaged a double-double for the Brewers, posting team-highs with 18.3 points and 10.4 rebounds. Gelb also led the team with just under three steals per game and led the Liberty League in all three categories. Gelb closed the season shooting 47.8-percent from the floor and contributed just over a blocked shot per game and nearly three assists per contest. Gelb became the 15
th 1,000-point scorer at Vassar with a single game record 36 points against RIT on January 18.
Harvey, a Biology, Pre-med major, was named First Team All-Liberty League and the Liberty League Championship Most Outstanding Player. Harvey is a two-time Academic All-District selection and is coming off a senior season that saw her produce better than 15 points per game. Harvey led the team in three-point field goals with 47 and finished second in the Liberty League in three-pointers per game and third in three-point field goal percentage.
Harvey led the Liberty League with an 87.7-percent conversion rate from the free-throw line and became the 14
th 1,000-point scorer at Vassar on November 12 against New Paltz.
McDermed, a Physics and applied mathematics major, also is a two-time Academic All-District selections for the Brewers. McDermed was named First Team All-Liberty League as a junior and finished the season as the team leader in assists with 3.5 per game and minutes, playing just over 36 minutes per night.
McDermed was second on the team in scoring with 17.5 points per game and among the Liberty League leaders finished the season second in scoring and third in assists. McDermed was the third player on the 2024-25 roster to reach 1,000 points, becoming the 16
th player in program history to achieve the milestone with 25 points against RPI on February 15.
Ahearn, who studies Neuroscience and behavior at Vassar, earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career. Ahearn started all 28 games for the Brewers as a junior and averaged nearly 29 minutes per game. Ahearn was good for 4.5 points per game and handed out 31 assists to go along with 21 steals. Ahearn was named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team for the second straight season in 2024-25.
Vassar finished the season with a 21-7 overall record. The Brewers won their second straight Liberty League title and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history.
