Kansas City, MO - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its All-American teams on Wednesday afternoon as Vassar College Men's Basketball sophomore
Shea Fitzgerald becomes the first Men's Basketball All-American selection in program history after being named NABC Third Team All-American. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC member coaches across NCAA Division III.
After being named a NABC First Team All-District III selection and a D3hoops.com All-Region III First Team selection yesterday, Fitzgerald collects another postseason accolade and makes history as the first All-American in Vassar College Men's Basketball program history. Fitzgerald also made program history as the first All-Region selection in both D3hoops.com and NABC.
Fitzgerald was named the Liberty League Player of the Year, the first since Zach Johnson in 2022, and an All-First Team Liberty League selection after leading the league in points per game with 19.7 and in free throw percentage at 88.0. Fitzgerald was an integral part of the team earning the #3 seed in the Liberty League Championship and winning 12 regular season conference games for the first time in school history. He also was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week three times this season.
Fitzgerald finished the regular season ranked in the top-75 in the country in points per game and 25th nationally in free throw percentage. Fitzgerald now holds the third highest points per game average in a single season at Vassar and holds the second highest free throw percentage mark in a single season in program history.
Vassar closed the season at 16-10 overall and earned the third seed in the Liberty League Championship with a conference record of 12-4.
