Beth Greenwood Named Vassar Pitching Coach

Greenwood joins the Vassar Baseball staff following stint with the Philadelphia Phillies

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Vassar College Head Baseball Coach Tad Skelley has announced the hiring of Beth Greenwood as the new assistant coach and facilities assistant. Greenwood will be in charge of the pitchers as she comes to Poughkeepsie following a two-year stint with the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Greenwood comes to Vassar following two years with the Phillies organization where she served as a Minor League Development coach with the high-A affiliate Jersey Shore BlueClaws last season. She was the catching coach for the BlueClaws and assisted in game planning,on-field activities and player development.

"I am beyond excited to welcome Beth to the Vassar Baseball program. Despite being just a few years removed from college, she brings an incredible depth of experience that will undoubtedly benefit our players," said Skelley. "Beth played for a highly respected and competitive program, not just within our conference, but also on the national stage at Rochester. Her drive to continually challenge and push herself has already led her to coaching opportunities with the Phillies organization and now at the collegiate level."

Prior to her time as a minor league development coach, Greenwood was a Baseball Research and Development Fellow from 2022-24. She was responsible for working as a catching instructor with the Florida Complex League and rehab, as well as working with technologies for bullpens, games, live BP's and the biomechanics lab.

Greenwood also worked as an Engineering Intern in 2021 for All-Star Sporting Goods where she worked with the product development group involving prototype testing a Bat Swinger machine to enhance helmet research and material selection for concussion prevention.

"Beth is a smart, talented, and dedicated individual. Her hard work and passion for the game will make an immediate and lasting impact on our program. We are fortunate to have someone of her caliber join the Vassar Baseball family. Our players and the entire community will be better for it." 

Greenwood has spent time with multiple Girls Baseball organizations where she has helped coach and evaluate talent for the MLB GRIT: Girls ID Tour along with working with Baseball For All as a Board Member of the largest girls baseball organization in the country. She has also worked with multiple other Girls Baseball Organizations in regards to clinics and events for youth development.

Greenwood has been a member of the USA Women's National Baseball team program since 2018 where she was on the USA Baseball National Development Roster/Top 40 from 2018-22 before making the Top 20 National Team roster in 2023 and is still on the roster currently. In 2023, Team USA went undefeated in the World Cup Qualifier and went on to win Silver in the 2024 World Cup, which boosted their WBSC World Ranking to second place.

Greenwood was a two-year baseball student athlete at the University of Rochester where she made history as the first American female to catch in a NCAA baseball game in 2021 and was the first female baseball player in Liberty League history.

Greenwood earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester in 2022 where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
