Women's Track and Field Posts Strong Showing in Indoor Season Opener at the West Point Crowell Open

Stevens scores second place finish in the women's heptathlon

WEST POINT, NY - The Vassar College Women's Track and Field team opened up the indoor season on Saturday afternoon at the West Point Crowell Open as junior Faye Stevens finished second overall in the pentathlon and was the top Division III finisher.

Pentathlon

Stevens - Second out of 12
- Stevens earned a first place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:39.30 and also scored a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 10:32.
- Stevens was the top Division III finisher in the pentathlon and finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.00 meters.
First year Abigail Sasson - Eighth out of 12
- Sasson finishes third in the high jump at 1.46 meters and posted seventh place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump
Junior Soleil Yuong - 10th out of 12
- Yuong posted a strong third place finish in the shot put at 9.35 meters.

60M Hurdles

Sophomore Jahmilia Dennis finished ninth in the preliminaries, just missing the top eight with a time of 9.35.
Senior Nora Jensen scored a 14th place finish in 9.71 along with sophomore Freja Niklasson finishing 16th in 10.07.

60 Meters

Senior Ava Novak qualified for the finals with an eighth place finish in the preliminaries and finished seventh overall in 8.07.
Sophomore Jamie Eu finished 11th overall in 8.27 followed by Jensen in 15th in 8.44 and sophomore Sydney Passley-Harris scored a 16th place finish in 8.49.

1 Mile

Sophomore Nora Goldberg-Courtney scored a fifth place finish and was the top Division III finisher with a time of 5:47.13.

400 Meters

Sophomore Maddie Busam tallied an eighth place finish in 1:04.34 followed by first year Maya Carey finishing 10th overall with a time of 1:05.84.
Sophomore Margaret McLaughlin crossed the finish line in 11th in 1:05.84 and first year Jillian Benfante was 13th overall in 1:10.27.

200 Meters

Novak posted a fifth place finish with a time of 26.97 while Eu finished 10th overall in a time of 28.01.
Jensen and Busam each tallied top-15 finishes with Jensen crossing the finish line in 28.58 in 12th and Busam was 14th in 28.81.

3000 Meters

Goldberg-Courtney posted a strong race with a ninth place finish in 11:26.85.

4x400 Relay

The quartet of Busam, senior Laura Wong, Carey and McLaughlin scored a fourth place finish in a time of 4:22.17.

Long Jump

Passley-Harris recorded a ninth place finish at 5.10 meters followed by Novak in 11th with a mark of 4.97 meters.
Eu tallied a 14th place finish with a mark of 4.82 meters and senior Heather Kwafo was 15th at 4.71 meters.

Triple Jump

Dennis was the top Division III finisher with a mark of 11.35 meters for second overall and Kwafo was fourth with a mark of 10.09 meters.

UP NEXT

Vassar is off until the Blue and Orange Invite at Utica University on January 26th and 27th.
