MEDFORD, MA – The Vassar College women's squash team opened action at the 2022 CSA Women's Team National Championships on Friday. The Brewers, competing in the Epps Cup, squared-off against Haverford College falling by an 8-1 margin in the opening round. VC moves to 9-7 on the season and will play on Saturday in the Consolation Draw.
In today's match against the Fords, the Brewers saw sophomore
Anna Lee post the victory from three as she battled to a 12-14, 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 win over Catherine Fortin.
Despite that, Vassar went on to shoulder tough losses in the latter part of the ladder as rookie
Sophia Choudhri fell 11-1, 11-0, 11-1 to Maisie Smith from seven. Senior
Heidi Zahnleuter dropped an 11-3, 11-1, 11-3 decision to Emilia Zegers at eight, while nine saw sophomore
Kelsey O'Connell suffer an 11-1, 11-0, 11-0 loss to Lyvia Yan.

Darina Kulaha fell 11-2, 11-3, 11-3 to Shreya Singh at six, while from four, senior
Nicole Pihlstrom shouldered a tough 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 loss to Caroline Smith. From two, rookie
Emma Adams fell by an 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 margin to Isabelle Johnson, while five saw sophomore
Olivia Berkson fall 11-9, 11-2, 11-9 to Emi Krishnamurthy.
The final match of the day came down to the top of the ladder as senior captain
Claire Coss faced Haverford's Ariana Solecki. Despite a hard-fought effort, including an 11-8 victory in the third game to make it a 2-1 margin, Coss was unable to pull out the win, falling 11-7, 14-12, 8-11, 11-5 to Solecki to conclude the match.
Vassar returns to action on Saturday in the Semifinals of the Consolation Draw of the Epps Cup. They will face Chatham University at 2pm on courts 1, 2, and 3 at Tufts University. Match time will be at 2pm. The winner of that match advances to Sunday's 9:30am Championship Match of the Consolation, also being held on courts 1, 2, and 3 at Tufts.
