POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -Â Junior Adam Gulick (Buffalo, NY) led the No. 3 Vassar men's volleyball team with 17 kills to help the Brewers sweep Arcadia 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in Kenyon Hall. Vassar has now swept three-straight opponents to move to 3-0 overall, while Arcadia slips to 1-3. The Brewers won 25-22, 25-16, and 25-18.
Vassar took the first three points of the first set behind kills from Gulick and junior Gavin van Beveren (Alpharetta, GA). Another kill by van Beveren and junior Andrew Kim (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) pushed the Brewers' lead to 4-1. A couple of service errors on both sides kept the Knights close until Arcadia's Owen Heft knocked in two consecutive kills to tie 7-7.
The Brewers regained the lead, and the Knights kept within two points. Vassar used a 4-0 run to take a 17-11 lead, but Arcadia fought back to tie once again at 19-19. Gulick sent in another kill, and Kim launched a service ace to put Vassar up by two. Two more Gulick scores made it 23-20. The Knights recorded a service error, and sophomore Colin Jones (San Diego, CA) tallied the set winning point.
 The second set remained close and was tied 5-5 before the Brewers rallied off a 4-1 run. Vassar continued to strike-off scoring runs and took a ten-point lead following a 5-0 span that included kills by Jones, Andrew Kim, and Jacob Kim (Pleasanton, CA). The Knights never recovered as the Brewers quickly hung on for the win.
Arcadia kept the competition close in the third, tying 13-13 midway through. A triple block by van Beveren, Jacob Kim, and Andrew Kim gave Vassar a 15-13 lead for the remainder of the set. Gulick continued to tack on the kills, scoring two in a row to continue the Brewer advantage. Senior Jake Kaplan (Leesburg, VA) made it 23-17 following an ace, and the set was closed after a Knights' error and a final kill by Jacob Kim.
As a team, Vassar hit .538 percent, while Arcadia went for .259 percent. Gulick struck for .609 percent for a match-high 17 kills, while Andrew Kim knocked in nine kills and four blocks. Van Beveren added eight kills on .636, hitting with four blocks. Jacob Kim dished out 31 assists with five kills.
For the Knights, Heft tallied nine kills, while Anthony Devantier led the team with 22 assists.
Vassar travels to the International Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic next in Springfield, MA, on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.
