DANBURY, CT - The No. 18 Vassar field hockey team won its fourth consecutive game to move to 4-0 on the season following a 3-0 victory against Western Connecticut State on Wednesday evening. The Brewers earned their second shutout of the year while not allowing a single West Conn shot the entire game. With the loss, Western moves to 1-1 overall.
Vassar controlled the game early, taking five shots in the first quarter. The West Conn defense held in by making three saves but eventually broke in the 13th minute. The Brewers drew a foul for a penalty corner, and sophomore Jacklyn Narleski (Basking Ridge, NJ) inserted from the left side. She fed the pass to
Hailey Brigger (San Diego, CA) at the top of the arc for the shot attempt. The ball went straight through the West Conn defense, and Vassar went up 1-0.
Junior
Ella Pearl (San Francisco, CA) scored identically to the opening goal. This time sophomore
Maggie Werner (Berkely, CA) inserted the penalty corner, and similarly to last game, Pearl wound up her shot, and the ball flew right in for the score.
As in the first half, the Brewers held Western Connecticut without a single shot taken. Vassar tacked on a third goal in the fourth quarter following a scramble in front of the West Conn net. Junior
Avery Bauman (Westbrook, CT) managed to find the ball and chip the shot in, making it 3-0. Â Â
Vassar finished the game outshooting Western Connecticut 24-0 with 14 shots on goal. The Brewers also held a 6-0 corner advantage.
The Brewers return home to host No. 10 Kean on Sat. Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. on Weinberg Field.
