POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – After earning a program-record of 23 student-athletes to the national academic squad, the Vassar field hockey team recorded another best with seven named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction. The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year.
Six first-years were honored in Adah Anderson (San Diego, CA), Hailey Brigger (San Diego, CA), Heidi Compton (Clark, NJ), Katie Hieb (Pewaukee, WI), Kate Neikirk (Hayes, VA), and Kelsey O'Connell (Chapel Hill, NC). Also receiving the award for the second straight year is sophomore Sam Kass (Ann Arbor, MI).
Across Division III, over 450 student-athletes were recognized as NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction.
The NFHCA has already announced the 2020 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, and the final 2020 NFHCA Division III Academic Award, the NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, will be announced on March 29.
