MECHANICSBURG, PA- Though connecting with 40 kills, the Vassar College men's volleyball team dropped three straight sets to the Messiah College Falcons (23-25, 22-25, 21-25) Saturday afternoon.
Â
With the loss, the Brewers move to a record of 11-12 overall.
Â
Vassar's offensive effort was led by
Kevin Ros (Bridgewater, NJ),
Yoni Auerbach (East Brunswick, NJ) and
Joe Hendrickson (Feeding Hills, MA) earning 10, eight and seven kills respectively. Hendrickson was also strong at the net securing a team-leading five blocks. Daniel Halbreg (Newark, DE) dished out 22 assists, and
Noah Hoppenjans (Edmond, OK) notched 13.
Â
Ben Brody (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) hit the court with five digs while
George Diehl (St. Louis, MO) and Ros both tallied four.
Â
The day started slow with the teams trading the advantage, neither team going up by more than three. Trailing by one, the Brewers found an edge off a Hendrickson kill paired with a Falcon error and a kill from
Jefferson Waters (Hummelstown, PA) forcing a Messiah timeout. The score set at 22-all Vassar took the lead on an Auerbach kill to which Messiah responded with two kills to close out the set.
Â
Set two of the day began slowly again, however the Brewers found momentum off two Ros kills and an Auerbach kill leading 10-7. Another Ros kill combined with a Diehl kill and a Messiah error and Vassar continued its hold offensively. Yet, the Falcons sided out and tied the score at 22. Two Brewers errors and a Falcon's kill, and the set was over.
Â
The final set of the match followed the trend, going point for point. Leading by one, the Brewers went on a 3-point run off of two Messiah errors and a Hendrickson kill. A Falcon timeout, and Messiah would go on its own 3-point run and follow by just two. Ros would land a kill before Messiah would go on a 5-point run and lead by two. The set would end with two Falcon's kills and a final Brewer error.
Â
Vassar is back on the court Friday, March 29 at 8p.m. as they face United Volleyball League opponent Elmira College.
