Vassar Men's Lacrosse Notes - No. 20 RPI

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 10, 2018) – The Brewers face their fifth ranked opponent of the season as they head to Troy to take on No. 20 RPI on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Brewers dropped a close match against Stockton University 8-9 last Saturday, falling to 1-3 in conference and 2-8 overall. Sophomore Michael Mullen scored four goals to lead the Brewer offense, and James Thomas and Dekker Stebel each added a goal and an assist. Matt Boyd racked up 11 saves in goal for Vassar.
 
A Look At The Brewers (2-8, 1-3 Liberty League):
  • Junior Matt Boyd is second in the league in saves per game, averaging 11.40 saves per game for a save percentage of .545.
  • Matthew Lowery leads the Liberty League in ground balls per game, picking up 7.44 ground balls a night.
  • Michael Mullen leads the team in scoring so far this season, leading the team in points (25) and goals (18).
  • Nick Diamond is first on the team in assists, dishing out 12 assists so far this year.
  • Cooper Vorel has been a defensive force for the Brewers, with 10 caused turnovers. Zack Henig and Stefan Fleps have rounded out the defense, causing 8 turnovers each.
  • Tomás Meade leads the team in shooting percentage, posting a .533 average while scoring eight goals.
  • Matthew Lowery has been a staple on the faceoff this season, winning 108 face-offs so far this year at a .671 clip.
 
A Look At The Engineers (8-2, 3-1 Liberty League):
  • RPI is second in the Liberty League in goals per game (14.2), points per game (23.4), and assists per game (9.2).
  • Zach Lucas and Cliff Kigar are fourth and fifth in the conference in goals per game, averaging 2.86 and 2.78 goals per game respectively.
  • Lucas leads the league in points per game with 4.57 points per game. Lucas' 32 points on the season are good for third on the team for the Engineers, with only Kelly and Kigar scoring more points (36) this season.
  • JT Kelly is second in the league in assists per game with 2.78, leading the Engineers with 25 assists this year.
  • Oliver Kalja anchors the Engineers in the center circle, controlling 65 face-offs for a .546 clip. Kalja has also collected the most ground balls for the Brewers, picking up 28 so far.
  • Keaton Ackermann leads RPI's defense, causing 12 turnovers this season and picking up 10 ground balls.
  • Parker Smith has been a force in net for the Engineers with a .556 save percentage, collecting 74 saves in seven wins and only two losses so far this year.
 
Against RPI All-Time: Vassar is 1-18 all-time against the Engineers, winning for the first time in school history last year with an 11-9 victory at home in Poughkeepsie.
