POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.  – The Vassar College men's squash team opened its season against a trio of teams on Saturday in Kenyon Hall. The Brewers faced a tough competition and fell to Fordham, Lehigh and Boston University.
Vassar 2, Fordham 7
The Brewers opened the day against No. 32 Fordham. The Rams proved to be a tough opponent, taking all seven matches that were played.
Caden Gruber (Costa Mesa, CA) took the No. 1 position and contested Fordham's Patrick Rodden to 11-8 and 11-6 the first two rounds, but fell 11-2 in the third set.
Vassar 3, Lehigh 6
The Mountain Hawks' Sam Ghorashi took the first set 12-10, but Gruber rebounded with an 11-9 win in the second. The match was close after, but Ghorashi pulled off 11-8 and 11-6 wins in the next two sets to win the No. 1 position.
Senior
Travers Parsons-Grayson (Newport, VT) managed a five-set win over Ben Rankin. Parsons-Grayson won 11-8 and 11-4 to start when Rankin took the next two sets. He managed to rally in the fifth with a score of 13-11 to win the sixth spot.
Freshman
Reese Collins (Bedford, NH) appeared to struggle in the first set, losing to Lehigh's Henry Nimey 11-3 at the No. 7 position. Collins came back strong by winning the next three sets with scores of 11-8, 15-13 and 11-4.
Fellow freshman Liam Condon (Auburndale, MA) had a solid bout as well. He swept his opponent 3-0, and won the sets 11-3, 11-6 and 11-4.
Vassar 3, Boston University 6
The Terriers took the No. 1 to No. 6 positions, but the Brewers put up a fight.
Milind Joshi (Pune, India) battled with Boston University's Karan Mahtab in a five-set contest. Joshi opened with a 12-10 set win, but Mahtab fought back and won the second 11-2. The sophomore then rebounded with the 11-4 third-set victory, but was edged out 11-9 and 12-10 in the final sets.
Travors-Grayson traded sets with Boston's Shrey Shah at the sixth position, but eventually fell 3-2.
The Brewers now wrap up the weekend against Bryant on Sunday morning at Kenyon Hall.
