Brewers Topped By Connecticut College, Haverford At CSA Divisional Championship

Merchant goes 2-0 on the day

Philadelphia, PA – The Vassar College Men's Squash team opened the CSA Divisional Championship on Friday falling to Connecticut College 5-4 and Haverford 6-3. First Year Aqeel Merchant (Arlington, MA) won both of his matches on the day for the Brewers.
 
Following Friday's matches, Vassar stands at 5-15 on the season.
 
Vassar 4 – Connecticut College 5
  • Vassar won at positions three through six against the Camels on Friday.
  • At three, senior Kyle Benson (Bronx, NY) scored a 11-5, 11-2, retired victory.
  • Merchant was victorious at four for the Brewers after posting a 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 triumph.
  • Gabriel Lugo (East Hartford, CT) also went four frames at five for Vassar, earning an 11-6, 11-7, 4-11, 11-9 win.
  • Senior Razaan Lalji (West Vancouver, BC) went five at the sixth position, battling to a 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8 win.
  • First Year Julian Cardenas-Moncada (New York, NY) also went the distance at seven, suffering a hard fought 9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 6-11 defeat.
 
Vassar 3 – Haverford 6
  • Merchant scored his second victory of the day following an 11-6, 11-9, 12-14, 14-12 victory at the fourth slot.
  • Konstantinos Georgallides (Limassol, Cyprus) was victorious at the top of the ladder against the Fords, earning a tough 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 7-11, 11-2 victory.
  • Sophomore Matthew Okulski (Portland, ME) found the win column at two against Haverford with a 1-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-9 triumph.
  • Benson battled hard for the Brewers, rallying from 2-0 to force a fifth frame at three. Ultimately Haverford's Kai Thomas Schinaman held off Benson in an 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 11-13, 12-10 decision.
  • Lugo went five frames at the fifth position, but was upended 11-3, 13-15, 6-11, 11-7, 4-11.

  • Vassar continues the CSA Divisional Championship on Saturday when it takes on Hobart.
