POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The sixth-seeded Vassar College women's soccer team (9-6-1, 5-4-0 Liberty) visits third-seeded RIT (10-4-2, 5-2-2 Liberty) at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament . The Brewers are making their fourth straight Liberty League Tournament appearance, as they look to follow up on last year's run to the championship game.
These teams met in the 2017 Liberty League Semifinals, with Vassar posting a 1-0 win on a goal by
Amanda McFarland. The Brewers also won this year's regular season meeting with the Tigers, getting scores from
Skylar Herrera-Ross (Alameda, CA) and
Emma Tanner (Florence, MA) to notch a 2-0 victory in Rochester on Sept. 22 RIT was ranked 15
th in the nation at the time, giving Vassar one of its two road wins over a ranked opponent this season.
Tanner, a three-time Liberty League weekly award recipient (two Rookie, one Player) is the Brewers' leading scorer with six goals, and she also has a team-high 12 points.
Rebecca Andrews (Los Altos, CA) has found the back of the net four times, including three-game winners, while
Ashley Ferry (Westfield, NJ) paces the squad with four assists. Goalkeeper
Fiona Walsh (Hackettstown, NJ) is 8-6-1 this season. The Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week on Oct. 22, she has tallied five shutouts this season and ranks fourth in the conference with 4.87 saves per game.
RIT won its last three regular season games to earn the No. 3 seed in the Liberty League Tournament. The Tigers are led by Marla Roberts, whose seven goals this season are tied for third-most in the conference. Maggie Hoey and Mia White have added four goals apiece, while Lauren Zeglen is tied for second in the league with five assists. Alyssa Salls and Ingrida Ivaska have split the time in net. Salls is 6-1-2 with 50 saves and a 0.60 goals against average. Ivaska, meanwhile, has a 4-3-0 record and a goals against average of 0.75. They have combined to notch eight shutouts this season.
Tuesday's winner will move into the Liberty League semifinals against second-seeded Ithaca (13-2-2, 7-2-0 Liberty) on Saturday. The winner of that contest, which will be played at William Smith College in Geneva, NY, advances to Sunday's Liberty League Championship Game.
