POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 30, 2018) – The Vassar men's volleyball team comes home to host their home opener against Springfield College and St. Joseph's College. The Brewers are looking to extend their four-game winning streak in this non-conference tri-match.

Last Time Out: The Brewers extended their four-game winning streak by picking up two wins this past weekend against Loras College and Alvernia University. The Brewers are won both matches in straight sets. In the last match, the Brewers posted their season-best 46 kills against Alvernia and hope to carry this momentum into the match against Springfield. 

A Look at The Brewers (5-2, 0-0 UVC): 
 

• The Brewers have begun their season offensively aggressive, earning 318 kills on the season and an average hitting percentage of .291. The Vassar Men's Volleyball team is averaging 12.23 kills per second, second in their conference.
• Matt Knigge, the returning AVCA All-American, leads the team in terminations earning 83 so far this season, averaging 3.61 kills per set. Following behind him is Sophomore Returner, Kevin Ros with 58 total kills and an average of 2.52 kills per set.
• Vassar College is leading the United Volleyball Conference in aces, averaging 2.31 aces per set as a team.
• Both AVCA All-Americans, Zechariah Lee and Matt Knigge lead the team with 14 aces each and an average of .61 aces per set.
• Defensively, Freshman Libero leads the team in 39 digs, averaging 1.63 digs per set. Kevin Ros has accumulated 37 digs of his own, averaging 1.61 digs per set.
• The Brewers have been defensively aggressive up at net with 50.5 total blocks this season. Matt Knigge leads the team with 25 total blocks, followed by Ryan Duchemin (21) and Zechariah Lee (12).
• Setter Zechariah Lee has led the team in assists, distributing 214 assists to Vassar's hitters, diversifying the Brewer Offense.

 
A Look at the Pride (6-1)

• Springfield Men's Volleyball Team are nationally-ranked No. 1 in Division III Volleyball. After dropping their first match of the season, the Pride has gone on a six-match winning streak.
• As a team, the Pride has an average hitting percentage of .344, averaging 12.17 kills per set.
• The Pride's offense is varied and effective. Ricardo Padilla Ayala leads the team with 62 kills, averaging 2.95 kills per set. Fellow teammates, Sergio Figueroa Velez earned 56 total kills(2.55 kills/set) and Sean Zuvich earned 44 total kills (2.75 kills/set) following close behind him.
• As a team, Springfield Men's Volleyball averages 2.25 aces per set. Most aces primarily come from two of Springfield's players, Ricardo Padilla Ayala (15 total aces) and Sergio Figueroa Velez (13 total aces).
• Libero Eli Irizarry Pares leads the team with 47 digs, averaging 2.14 digs/set.
• Main Defensive Blocker Kyle Jasuta has 20 stuffed blocks on the season so far, averaging 0.83 blocks/set.
• Mike Neary runs the Springfield offense with 163 total assists on the season, averaging 10.19 assists per set.

 
 A Look at the Golden Eagles (3-1, 0-0 Skyline)

• The Golden Eagles are coming off a two game winning streak against Arcadia University and Brooklyn College.
• St. Joseph's Men's Volleyball Team has earned 182 kills on the season, averaging 12.13 kills/set. The team has a .215 hitting percentage on the season.
• Offensively, Paul Curaro and Will Flohr lead the team in kills. Curaro with 50 total kills, hitting .209 and Flohr with 48 kills, hitting .296.
• Defensively, Junior Danny McNamara has been extending points from the back of the court, leading the team with 50 digs and averaging 3.85 digs/set.
• Middle Blocker Kyle Biggers leads the team with 9 total blocks, followed by Outside Hitter Will Flohr who has earned 8 total blocks on the season.
• Setter Tyler Jones has dished out 140 assists on the season so far, while contributing 10 kills of his own on the season.
• Sophomore Starter Will Flohr also leads the team from the baseline, earning 6 aces on the season so far.

Against All-TIme: The Brewers are 2-40 against Springfield all-time. The Last time the Brewers beat the Pride was in 2002. This is the first time in history Vassar College will compete against St. Joseph's College.
