Vassar Men's Lacrosse Game Notes - Bard

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 24, 2017) — The Vassar College men's lacrosse team heads across the river to take on the Raptors of Bard College. This conference match up will undoubtedly factor in to their chances for a playoff birth.

Last Time Out: Last Saturday, RIT took a beating on the Brewers, outscoring the squad 21-8. The Brewers couldn't seem to catch a break, while the Tigers capitalized on every opportunity.
 
A Look at the Brewers (9-4, 2-3 LL):
  • After starting the season 9-2, the Brewers have fallen to 9-4, dropping the last two conference contests to St. Lawrence and RIT.
  • These two respectable opponents top the conference with a record of 5-1.
  • A win against Bard would place the Brewers at 3-3, wrapping them up in a four-way tie for third in the conference.
  • The offense is lead by seniors Liam Moriarty and Sam Houston-Read, both with 38 shots on goal, adding 34 and 32 points respectively.
  • Moriarty also adds 1.46 assists/game, good for eighth in the conference.
  • Goalies, sophomore Matt Boyd and junior Erik Mikelinich combine for a .543 save percentage, allowing just 113 goals to date.
  • Freshman Matthew Lowery boasts a .629 faceoff percentage on top of 72 groundballs to lead VC in both categories.
  • Against RIT, Chris Billups proved to be one of Vassar's most valuable players on attack, earning two goals and one assist.
 
A Look at the Raptors (4-7, 0-5 LL):
  • Vassar is currently undefeated against Bard all-time (3-0).
  • This is only Bard's third year in the conference. The Raptors are looking for their first Liberty League win as an up-and-coming team. 
  • Bard is coming off a four game losing streak. Their last win was against SUNY Poly when they earned an 11-4 victory.
  • Freshman standout Corey Rich is currently ninth in the Liberty League in points per game with 2.82. Rich also ranks sixth overall in the league in assists per game with 1.64.
  • John Palermo and Emmet O'Connell are seven and eight in the league in shots per game with 6.45 and 6.00, respectively.
  • Leading the Raptors in groundballs is Blake Burnley who currently has 32 on the season.
  • Freshman Weston Bishop is Bard's leading faceoff guy. Bishop has won 49 out of the 106 faceoffs taken, boasting a .462 winning percentage.
Next Up: Vassar will head home next to host their Senior Day against Union College this Saturday, April 29th at 1:00 p.m. The game will take place on Vassar's Gordon Field.
