Vassar Men's Lacrosse Notes — RIT

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 18, 2017) — The Vassar College men's lacrosse team (9-3, 2-2 LL) will head to Rochester, NY this Saturday to take on conference foe No. 4 RIT at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Brewers fell in a hard-fought contest against No. 9 St. Lawrence on Gordon Field. Chris Billups scored three goals and Sam Houston-Read gained two in the losing effort.

A Look at the Brewers (9-3, 2-2 LL):
  • Prior to the tough loss against St. Lawrence, the Brewers had won three games in a row. These came against Clarkson University, RPI, and Bryn Athyn.
  • The Brewers have played well away this year, going 3-1 with their sole loss coming at Skidmore College.
  • Vassar currently sits in fourth in the Liberty League, behind St. Lawrence, RIT, and RPI in that order, and above Clarkson, Union, and Skidmore.
  • Liam Moriarty is seventh in the conference in assists per game with 1.58 per contest.
  • Chris Billups was placed on this week's Liberty League Honor Roll due to his three-goal performance against St. Lawrence.
  • Vassar's Matthew Lowery has the highest faceoff percentage in conference (excluding those who have just one attempt), winning 62.6% of the time.
  • Eric Prezioso is fifth in conference in caused turnovers per game with 1.73.
  • Matthew Boyd is second in the Liberty League in save percentage at 59.7%.
  • Billups, Michael Mullen, and Sam Houston-Read lead the Brewers in goals, with 17, 16, and 15, respectively.
  • Liam Moriarty is Vassar's point leader with 31.
  • Gianni Gelormino has the most ground balls of any non-faceoff specialist with 28.

A Look at the Tigers (10-2, 4-1  LL):
  • The RIT Tigers are currently ranked fourth in the USILA Coaches poll.
  • RIT comes into this weekend riding a five game win-streak, earning victories over No. 20 Middlebury, No. 4 St. Lawrence, No. 5 SUNY Cortland, Skidmore, and Union.
  • Chad Levick and Ryan Lee are fourth and fifth in conference in goals per game, with 2.67 and 2.50 respectively.
  • Lee is second in conference in points per game at 4.5 and second in assists per game at 2.
  • Patrick Hannigan is third in conference in caused turnovers per contest, at 1.75.
  • RIT leads the Liberty League in ground balls and caused turnovers per game at 37.67 and 12.58 respectively.
  • The Tigers have the best shot percentage in conference at .328.
  • The Tigers also score the most goals per contest (15.08) and earn the most points (26).
  • Dominant scorers Levick and Lee play extremely well together and have great chemistry, in large part stemming from a friendship that goes back into their childhood.
  • RIT starting goalie Nick Nesbitt allows 9.91 goals per game on average and has saved 107 balls.

Against RIT All-Time: Vassar is 0-5 all-time against RIT and comes into this weekend looking to win its first ever game against the squad. In the last meeting between the teams, RIT defeated Vassar 21-8 on April 23, 2016.   

Next Up: Vassar will continue its road-stand and head over to Annandale-on-Hudson, NY on Wednesday April 26th to take on conference opponent Bard College.
