POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 14, 2017) — The Vassar College men's squash team (5-12) will finish out its season in the College Squash Association Championships in Cambridge Massachusetts. Vassar will start off the weekend facing Duke University on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The Brewers will then go on to compete in either the champions side or the consolation side of the F Division based on the outcome of this match. Last Time Out: The Brewers fell to St. Lawrence University and Hobart College in the second day of the Liberty League Championship on Sunday.
A Look At The Brewers (5-12):
- The Brewers last win came against the University of Vermont on Jan. 28, 9-0.
- The captains for the Brewer squad are Vincent Mencotti, Samuel Hammer, and Richard Bryenton.
- Hammer, Mencotti, Lucas Fifer and Richard Bryenton are all seniors playing in their final weekend of Vassar squash.
- The Brewers have improved on their 2015-2016 campaign, winning three more matches this season already.
- Mencotti earned a spot on the Liberty League Honor Roll on Jan. 30 for his performances in the Hudson Valley Team Tournament.
- Mencotti is 11-5 overall on the season, while Viraj Nadkarni is 6-9.
- Vassar has played well at home this season, as three of their five wins came in Poughkeepsie.
A Look at The Blue Devils of Duke (7-2):
- The Blue Devils started their season winning seven in a row against colleges and universities such as Vanderbilt, Fordham, and Swarthmore.
- Duke has fallen in its last two matches against Boston College and the University of Virginia.
- The team's number one, Aaron Jung, has a 6-1 record on the season.
- Alexander Newhouse has a 6-1 record in the two spot, and Philippe Heitzmann has a 4-2 mark in the three spot.
A Look at Boston University (7-8):
- Boston University has won six matches in a row coming into the weekend.
- These wins have come against Ithaca College, Colgate University, Swarthmore College, Bryant University, Northeastern University and Vassar College.
- BU's win over Vassar came on Jan. 28 in a 7-2 finish.
- Prior to this win streak, Boston University lost five in a row through the month of December and the beginning of January.
- Boston's number one, Marwan Sallam, has a 9-1 record on the year.
- The team's number two, Parker Tonissi, is 3-7, while the number three, Joel Lavoie, is 5-5.
A Look at the University of Richmond (3-5):
- Richmond recently fell to the University of Virginia 1-8, but defeated the University of North Carolina 7-0 in the match prior.
