POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 27, 2017) — The Vassar College men's squash team (4-6) will compete in the Hudson Valley Team Tournament at Kenyon Hall in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday (Senior Day) and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, beginning at 9 a.m. on both days.

Last Time Out: Vassar went 0-2 on Jan. 21, falling 6-3 to Swarthmore College and 8-1 to host Haverford College. At the top of the lineup,
Vincent Mencotti was perfect on the day, defeating Davy Qi of Swarthmore in three sets, 11-1, 11-1, 11-5, and topping Tate Miller of Haverford in five, hard-fought sets, 12-10, 9-11, 11-13, 11-8, 11-5.
Caden Gruber and
Lucas Fifer also picked up individual wins for the Brewers. Gruber took down Swarthmore's Nathaniel Sandalow-Ash at the four, 11-7, 11-9, 14-12, while Fifer pulled out an 11-3, 12-10, 12-10 win over Swarthmore's Olivia Cheng at the six.
A Look At The VC Brewers (4-6):
- The Brewers are looking for their first win since opening the season 4-0 for the first time since the 1993-94 team. That team finished with a 15-9 record.
- This season, Vassar has fallen to Connecticut College, Haverford College (twice), Bard, Tufts University and Swarthmore.
- Mencotti earned a spot on the Liberty League Honor Roll on Monday for his performances against Haverford and Swarthmore last week. The full release can be read here.
- The Brewers have been solid at the top of the lineup, as Mencotti sports an 8-2 record at one, and Viraj Nadkarni boasts a 5-3 mark at two.
- Four other Brewers have picked up at least four wins: Richard Bryenton (4-4) at five, Alex Riccio (4-6) primarily at six, Caden Gruber (5-5) primarily at seven and Lucas Fifer (5-5) primarily at eight.
- Already, the Brewers have improved upon last season, wherein they went 2-15 on the year, with their lone wins coming against Siena College and University of Notre Dame.
- This year, Vassar boasts three captains in Mencotti, Hammer and Bryenton.
- Hammer, Mencotti, Fifer and Bryenton are the seniors that will be honored on Saturday.
A Look At The BU Terriers:
- The Terriers take on the Brewer men on Saturday at 9 a.m., competing on courts 4-6.
- The BU men's squash program is under the direction of Elliott O'Brien.
- According to ussquash.com, BU has confirmed losses to Boston College, MIT, Northeastern, Fordham University, Lehigh University and most recent Tufts on Jan. 22.
- Marwan Sallam fought hard for BU's lone win against Tufts, taking down Brett R. Raskopf at one, 9-11, 11-5, 19-12, 11-8, 11-8.
- The only confirmed win the Terriers have this season, according to ussquash.com, is a 4-3 victory over Colgate University on Dec. 3.
- Since the program is considered an "emerging club," there is limited information available online.
A Look At The UVM Catamounts:
- The Catamounts take on the Brewer men on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., competing on courts 4-6.
- The UVM squash program is under the direction of Will Vincent.
- According to ussquash,com, UVM has one confirmed game so far this season, a 7-2 win over Siena on Oct. 8.
- Edward F. Smith, Diego Bonilla, Max L. Buchholz, Stephen Donahue, Knowles Spofford, Kristina Sickmueller and Jeff Betzler all picked up wins against Siena at spots two through eight, respectively.
- Since the program is considered an "emerging club," there is limited information available online.
A Look At The NU Huskies:
- The Huskies take on the Brewer men on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., competing on courts 4-6.
- The NU squash program is under the direction of Chris Santoro.
- According to ussquash.com, NU has three confirmed wins and nine confirmed losses this season.
- The program has wins over Babson College, Brandeis University and BU, and losses to Bard, Colby College, Boston College, MIT, Haverford, Northwestern University and Amherst College.
- The top of the lineup has been strong for the Huskies with Karan Kishorepuria (5-3), Evan Jacobson (6-3) and Viraj Shah (4-5) sporting the best records at one through three, respectively.
- Since the program is considered an "emerging club," there is limited information available online.
Next Up: The Brewer men will compete in the Liberty League Championships at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4-5. The times are to be determined.
