Vassar Men's Squash Notes — Haverford, Swarthmore

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 18, 2017) — The Vassar College men's squash team (4-4) travels to Haverford, PA to take on Haverford College (6-4) on Saturday, Jan. 21 at noon and Swarthmore College (0-5) later that day at 3:30 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: Vincent Mencotti notched a pair of wins, as Vassar went 0-2 on Dec. 4, falling 7-2 to Bard College and 8-1 to Tufts University at Kenyon Hall.
 
A Look At The Brewers (4-4):
  • The Brewers opened the season 4-0 for the first time since the 1993-94 team, a group that went 15-9 on the campaign. Vassar beat Siena College, Fordham University, Lafayette College and Swarthmore to reach that mark this time around.
  • Since then, the Brewers have fallen to Connecticut College, Haverford, Bard and Tufts.
  • The Brewers have been solid at the top of the lineup, as Mencotti sports a 6-2 record at one, and Viraj Nadkarni boasts a 5-3 mark at two.
  • Four other Brewers have picked four wins: Richard Bryenton (4-4) at five, Alex Riccio (4-4) primarily at six, Caden Gruber (4-4) primarily at seven and Lucas Fifer (4-4) primarily at eight.
  • Already, the Brewers have improved upon last season, wherein they went 2-15 on the year, with their lone wins coming against Siena College and University of Notre Dame.
  • This year, Vassar boasts three captains in Mencotti, Samuel Hammer and Bryenton.
 
A Look At The Fords (6-4):
  • Haverford won four of its first five games to open the season, beating Washington, Richmond, Vassar and Swarthmore around a loss to Conn. College.
  • Since then, the Fords have dropped three of their past five, most recently beating Northwestern, 7-2 on Sunday.
  • The Fords have posted one shutout (against Northeastern) and have been held scoreless just once (against Conn. College).
  • Cyrus Bahadori boasts the winningest record for the Fords, going 8-2 with four of those wins at the nine spot.
  • Ryan Dukarm sports a 7-3 record (4-1 at six, 3-2 at seven), Shilln Jog has a 6-4 mark (2-1 at seven, 4-3 at eight), Alex Liu has a 6-4 record at five, and Yash Singh boasts a 6-4 record (2-1 at three, 4-3 at four).
  • Keshav Kalani holds the longest active winning streak on the team at two.
  • The Fords look to improve up last season, in which they finished 9-13 on the campaign.
  • This year, Haverford boasts three captains in Zach Cole, Peter Dudley and Aaron Horwitz.
 
A Look At The Garnet (0-5):
  • Swarthmore has yet to win this season, having fallen to Lehigh University, Colgate University, Vassar, Bard and most recently Haverford.
  • The Garnet has been solid at the top of the lineup, as Henry Ortmeyer boasts a 5-0 record at the one.
  • Dong Shin You is the only other Swarthmore player to have registered more than one win with at 2-2 mark at the five.
  • Swarthmore has yet to play at home.
 
Next Up: The Brewers next compete in the Hudson Valley Team Tournament, a two-day event on Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29. Action from Kenyon Hall kicks off at 8 a.m. on the first day and 9 a.m. on the second.
