Vassar Women's Volleyball Match Notes - Hunter

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 27, 2016) – The Vassar College women's volleyball takes on Hunter College on their home court, Kenyon Hall, Thursday at 7 p.m. This will be the team's first time playing in Kenyon Hall this season.

Last Time Out: The Brewers were perfect in the four-game league tournament last weekend. The squad swept Bard College, RIT, Skidmore College, and Union College, outscoring opponents 302-200. The Brewer offense remained steady posting a tournament-best .278 hitting percentage.

A Look At The Brewers:
  • Vassar has won 11 of the last 12 contents, boasting an impressive 7-1 in Liberty League action, and 7-0 home record.
  • The Brewers first swing Thursday night will mark their 2,000th cumulative attack. Vassar remains at the top of the league with a .221 hitting percentage. The attacking percentage is also the third-highest in school history mid-way through the year.
  • The squad is averaging 12.7 terminations per game on just 5.2 errors a set.
  • Vassar's offensive double-threat, freshman Jane McLeod and sophomore Devan Gallagher were named Liberty League Rookie of the Week and Performer of the Week respectively.
  • Sophomore setter Annie MacMillan is dishing out 10.32 assists a game, topping the league. The rate is the second-most in a single season at VC ever, eclipsed by just the 10.62 from Rachel Bartfeld back in 1996.
  • The Brewers remain strong behind the service line, serving 137 aces thus far, good for 2.32 per set.
  • As a team, the Brewers are averaging 14.44 digs a set, led by senior Sierra Tobin with 201 total digs.
  • The next kill for senior Gabby Miller will be her 800th of her career, as she checks into the week with 799 terminations, good for 15th all-time at Vassar.
 
A Look At The Hawks:
  • The Hawks come into this week with a 9-8 record with a perfect record in league action.
  • The team is lead by junior outside Julia Connolly averaging 4.1 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .237.
  • Strong defense is Hunter's game plan, averaging 14.79 digs/set with four players totaling over 100 digs thus far.
  • Hunter sophomore Taylor Kerr-Haiduk and freshman Cristy Pariama were just named CUNYAC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively.
  • Connolly is 18th in the country in points per set so far this year with 4.78, which leads the CUNYAC.
  • Hunter is 11th nationally this season in team service aces with 145, and currently rank first in the CUNYAC in 10 different statistical categories.
 
Against Hunter All-Time: Vassar is 13-8 all-time against the Hawks, having won eight of the last 10 meetings with Hunter.
 
Up Next:  This Saturday, the team will face off against non-conference opponents John Jay College and Rutgers-Camden at home at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
