New York, NY - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team traveled to New York City on Friday evening as the Brewers were outlasted by Stockton 25-23, 11-25, 27-25, 19-25, 13-15 before falling in the nightcap to #21 NYU 17-25, 11-25, 15-25. Vassar's record drops to 6-8 overall.
Stockton 3 Vassar 2
First Set
- Stockton pulled ahead 8-2 to begin the match as Nicole Palmer tallied two kills along with an ace apiece from Lauren Sommer and Ariana Bongiovanni.
- VC drew back within a point at 10-9 behind a kill each from senior Holland Kaplan and first year Gina O'Connell along with blocks from junior Erin Lovett, O'Connell, senior Francesca Medrano and junior Eleanor Gegen.
- Vassar took a 16-13 lead following kills from Gegen and sophomore Elena Feuer, blocks from Feuer, Lovett and O'Connell and an ace from first year Riley Huang.
- Charlotte Haynes' ace knotted the set at 19 for the Ospreys before a kill from Jaclyn Niven put Stockton ahead 21-20.
- Vassar regained the lead at 23-21 on a Kaplan kill and took the opening set 25-23 behind a kill each from Lovett and Kaplan.
Second Set
- The Ospreys raced to a 10-1 lead following five aces from Niven and four kills from Palmer.
- Gegen's ace cut the lead to six before Stockton expanded the lead to 18-5 on a block from Jalynn Grant and Olivia Magro.
- Stockton cruised to a 25-11 set win following a kill from Niven.
Third Set
- Palmer's winner put Stockton ahead 5-3 before Vassar used a Feuer kill and a Huang ace to take a 6-5 lead.
- A four-point run put the Ospreys ahead 11-8 on a kill each from Magro and Cameron Lowe.
- The lead grew to 13-9 on a Lowe ace before a solo block from Lovett and two kills from Kaplan reduced the advantage to 16-14.
- VC rattled off six of the next seven point to earn a 20-18 lead following a kill from Lovett, an ace from Kaplan and a block from O'Connell and Gegen.
- Stockton tied the set at 23 on a Palmer kill and went ahead 25-24 behind another Palmer winner.
- Kaplan buried three straight winners to lead the Brewers back to a third set victory.
Fourth Set
- Stockton opened the fourth set with a 6-2 advantage following a kill each from Palmer and Grant and an ace from Bongiovanni.
- The lead expanded to 10-4 behind a kill and an ace from Palmer and a block from Alexys Bland and Niven.
- VC cut the lead to 11-10 as sophomore Amy Melchior landed an ace, Gegen buried a winner and Feuer, Gegen and Medrano added blocks.
- Bongiovanni's ace put the Ospreys ahead 19-12 before Vassar got within 21-17 on a kill apiece from O'Connell, Medrano and Kaplan.
- Stockton extended the match to a deciding fifth set following a kill each from Magro and Grant and an ace from Naomi Neher.
Fifth Set
- Vassar earned a 6-2 lead to begin the final set as Huang landed two aces, Feuer totaled two kills and Kaplan and Lovett each added a kill.
- Stockton cut the deficit to 8-6 on a kill from Magro before Vassar pushed the lead to 10-6 after another Kaplan kill.
- Gegen's winner put the Brewers ahead 13-10 before Stockton scored the final five points of the set with a block from Palmer, Haynes and Niven clinching the win.
For The Brewers
- Kaplan finished with a season-high 21 kills (.233), an ace and eight digs while Feuer notched eight kills, six blocks and two digs.
- Lovett tallied six kills and six blocks along with Gegen adding four kills, five blocks and eight digs.
- Medrano posted 28 assists, 13 digs, three kills and two blocks while O'Connell registered three kills and four blocks.
- Huang recorded 11 digs and four aces while first year Sophia Ierulli lifted 12 digs.
For The Ospreys
- Palmer recorded a match-high 34 kills (.444), two aces, four blocks and 13 digs while Magro tallied 12 kills, two blocks and seven digs.
- Niven garnered seven kills, five aces and six blocks along with Grant totaling six kills and five blocks.
- Haynes chipped in three kills, three blocks and five digs while Kristen Burton registered 31 assists and seven digs.
- Bongiovanni added 23 assists, three aces and 10 digs while Hellen Murray lifted nine digs.

First Set
- The Violets opened the match with a 11-3 lead following two aces from Kate Scherlacher and three winners from Grace Nelson.
- Vassar battled back to within 15-10 on a kill each from Gegen and O'Connell.
- NYU's lead expanded to 22-12 behind two kills from Kylie Emma Obeto and an ace from Coco Barton.
- Vassar cut the deficit to 23-17 on two aces from Huang, a kill each from Feuer and sophomore Ellen Zwerling and a block from O'Connell and Ierulli.
- NYU closed the opening set with a 25-17 win after a kill from Nelson.
Second Set
- NYU pulled ahead 8-1 to begin the second set following two aces from Scherlacher and a kill from Tatum Chase.
- The Violets' lead expanded to 15-4 on two kills from Chloe Lemons and a winner each from Barton and Alden Roberts.
- Chase's kill put NYU ahead 21-7 before a kill from Lovett and an ace from Huang cut the lead to 21-10.
- NYU took the set 25-11 after a kill each from Nelson and Lemons.
Third Set
- NYU took a 5-2 lead as Barton tallied two kills, Lucianna Welles added a kill and Daniela Laing landed an ace.
- Vassar tied the set at five following a kill from Feuer and a block from Lovett and Feuer.
- Ierulli's kill put the Brewers ahead 10-9 before NYU rattled off six straight points, led by four kills from Lemons, to pull ahead 15-10.
- Obeto's solo block expanded the lead to 18-13 before VC cut the lead to three.
- The Violets scored the final seven points of the set, capped by Scherlacher's three aces, to clinch the sweep.
For The Brewers
- Feuer tallied four kills and two blocks while Lovett chipped in three kills and three blocks.
- Gegen totaled three kills and three digs along with Ierulli posting eight assists, two kills and four digs.
- Senior T Petro lifted six digs while Huang recorded three aces and four digs.
For The Violets
- Lemons registered eight kills (.533) and three digs while Nelson notched seven kills and three digs.
- Obeto garnered seven kills and four blocks along with Chase adding five kills.
- Barton and Welles each posted four kills and Camellia Ding buried three digs.
- Scherlacher finished with 13 assists, eight aces and six digs while Roberts notched 13 assists and eight digs.
