Audrey Pillsbury scored the Brewers' only goal, as Massachusetts Institute of Technology edged Vassar 2-1 on Day 2 of the Stevens Engineering Cup at De Baun Athletics Complex in Hoboken, NJ on Sunday. On Day 1 of the Cup, the Brewers fell 2-0 to the host Stevens Institute of Technology.
A Look At The Brewers (1-4-0):
- Vassar has played four of its first five games of the season either on the road or at neutral sites. Eight of the Brewers' 17 regular-season games are at home this season.
- The Brewers hope to find their swing, as five of their next six games will be in front of their home crowd.
- Jordyn Matthews and Audrey Pillsbury lead the Brewer offense with four points apiece on a pair of goals. Next are Rory Chipman (one goal, one assist) and Sara Seper (two assists).
- Goalkeeper Stephanie Tapolsky (1-4-0) has started every game for the Brewers, surrendering seven goals and stopping 17.
- The Brewers have outshot opponents 74-53 overall and 34-24 in shots-on-goal. All five of the Brewers' goals have been assisted.
- Through five games this season, every Brewer goal has been scored in the second half.
- The Brewers looks to build upon last season, in which they finished 9-7-2 overall and 3-3-2 in Liberty League play. Vassar notched a spot in the Liberty League Championship, ultimately falling 5-0 to No. 3 William Smith College in the semifinals.
- Vassar showed incredible endurance last season, playing 10 extra overtime periods in 2015. In four games that went into overtime, the Brewers walked away with either a win or a draw. Already this season, the Brewers have forced an extra period (against WCSU on Sept. 7).
A Look At The Red Dragons (2-2-1):
- Oneonta most recently played Ursinus on Sunday, Sept. 11, setting for a 1-1 draw in double overtime. Before the Red Dragons face the Brewers on Saturday, they'll host the Hamilton Continentals on Wednesday.
- Oneonta opened the season with four road/neutral-site games, finishing with a 2-2 mark before drawing with Ursinus in its home-opener.
- Junior midfielder Kayla Belush leads the Red Dragons with eight points on three goals and two assists. Two of her goals were game-winners.
- Second on the team in points are sophomore midfielder Seaver Lipshi, junior defender Amanda Roney, sophomore midfielder Devyn Kilmeade, sophomore midfielder/forward Jess Downin and sophomore forward Kelsie Moinzadeh, who all have two points on one goal.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Emilie Mull (2-2-1) has started in the cage for all five of the Red Dragons' games, allowing five goals and stopping 17. Fellow keeper Keely Sullivan has also spent time in net, totaling 18 minutes against St. Joseph's Long Island.
- The Red Dragons have outshot opponents 89-52 overall and 41-22 in shots-on-goal. Of the eight goals Oneonta has tallied, four of them were assisted.
- The Red Dragons finished last season 15-4-2 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play. They won the SUNYAC Tournament Championship, with a win over Oswego State in the semifinals and Buffalo State in the title game.
- In 2015, Oneonta made it all the way to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling 1-0 in overtime to Carnegie Mellon University.
- Last year's senior-laden squad graduated nine, but added three freshmen for this season.
Against Oneonta All-Time: This will mark the first meeting between the Vassar and Oneonta women's soccer teams.
