Vassar Rolls To Victory Over D'Youville, Wins Brockport Tournament

BROCKPORT, NY (November 19, 2016) — Nicole Teta poured in 23 points, as the Vassar College women's basketball team to cruised to 75-43 victory over D'Youville College to win the Brockport Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.

Looking at the entire tournament standings, Vassar finished first, D'Youville claimed second, Morrisville State College took third and The College At Brockport rounded out the tournament with a fourth-place finish.

Teta's 23 points are tied for the most of her collegiate career, as she also scored as many at Bard College during her freshman campaign last season. Two other Brewers reached double figures, as Ariella Rosenthal and Sophie Nick finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Vassar wasted no time getting started, scoring the first nine points to open play. Teta capped the run with a triple, setting herself up for a stellar performance.

The Brewers were pedal to the metal the rest of the half, taking a 41-15 lead into the break. The second half was more of the same, as the Brewers inflated their lead to as many as 32 in the third quarter.

Rosenthal scored three straight buckets for Vassar, netting a triple, layup and jumper for a 50-18 advantage three minutes into the new half. Teta got hot from there, stringing together seven straight points for the Brewers over the third and fourth quarters.

Teta continued to dominate in the final frame, as the Brewers outscored the Spartans, 17-12, on their way to winning the tournament.

The Brewers shot 40 percent from the floor and 23 percent from three, holding their opponents to 20 and 17 percent, respectively. Darian Evans and Monica June led D'Youville with eight points apiece.

"Tonight, we played exceptional defense," coach Candice Brown said. "We were able to capitalize off a lot of their mistakes."

D'Youville turned the ball over 29 times, yielding 29 points for Vassar.

"I am proud of this group, as we played four quarters," Brown continued. "We are continuously growing each game. I was happy to be able to play everyone today."

Vassar will stay on the road to play at Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Follow their road trip, the Brewers will return home for a trifecta of games, hosting William Paterson (Nov. 28), Drew University (Nov. 30) and Ithaca College (Dec. 3).
