Last Time Out: The Brewers scraped out their second Liberty League win last Saturday, taking down Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Gordon Field, 3-2. Alex Gonzales netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, while Stephen Jennings picked up his first goal of the season on a breakaway in the first half.

A Look At The Brewers (8-2-2):

  • Alex Gonzales earned a spot on this week's Liberty League Honor Roll for his performances this past week. Gonzales was the difference-maker, notching a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to help Vassar to a 3-2 victory over RPI. The full release can be read here.
  • Vassar sits tied for second in the Liberty League standing with seven points, alongside Union College (8-2-1, 2-0-1) and Hobart (5-4-3, 2-1-1). Skidmore College (5-4-2, 2-0-2) currently stands atop the standings with eight points.
  • Vassar currently ranks second in the Liberty League with 78 points on 27 goals and 24 assists.
  • The Brewers have outshot opponents 214-120 overall and 93-48 in shots-on-goal. Of their 27 total goals, 24 have been assisted.
  • Vassar has scored twice as many goals after the break, totaling nine in the first half and 18 in the second.
  • Thirteen different Brewers have found the back of the net, displaying their offensive depth.
  • Mattie Mrlik paces the Brewers with 16 points (five goals, six assists), which is the second-most points that anyone has collected in the Liberty League, only behind Union's Andrew Fontaine (17 points).
  • Mattie Mrlik has tallied a point and an assist in three games so far this season, and has collected at least a point in eight of 12 games so far this season.
  • Hayden Van Brewer and Mattie Mrlik have each dished out six assists on the season, tying for second in the conference only behind Union's Andrew Fontaine (seven assists).
  • Goalkeeper Matt Marcelino has been solid in the cage, registering 35 saves for a 7-2-2 mark, including two clean sheets. Fellow keeper Will Marment has also spent time in net, starting one game and playing in three for a 1-0-0 record.
  • The Brewer defense has been stifling, shutting out five teams so far in Mount Saint Mary College (Sept. 4), William Paterson University (Sept. 10), Elms College (Sept. 11), New Paltz (Sept. 14) and Elmira College (Sept. 20).

A Look At the Tigers (4-5-3):
  • The Tigers will be looking for their first win of October when they face the Brewers this weekend, having lost 2-0 to Skidmore on Oct. 1, tied 0-0 with Suny Geneseo on Oct. 5 and lost 2-0 to Union on Oct. 8.
  • Last season, the Tigers finished 7-10-0 overall and 4-4-0 in Liberty League play. Their longest winning streak hit three games when they edged the Brewers 1-0 on Oct. 17, 2015.
  • The Tigers have found the back of the net seven total times this season. They have a 4-1 record when tallying at least one goal.
  • The squad has seen six extra periods so far this season, winning once, losing once and tying twice in overtime.
  • The Tigers have been outshot 133-128 overall and 64-57 in shots-on-goal. All seven of their goals have come off the foot of a different Tiger and all seven have been assisted.
  • Opponents have been able to score more than three times as many goals after the break, netting two in the first half, six in the second and one in overtime.
  • RIT has struggled with capitalizing on given opportunities, findings success on just one of three PK attempts.
  • Anthony DeFeo and Gene Sicoll lead the team with two assists apiece.
  • Goalkeeper Peter Cinibulk has made a conference-leading 55 saves for a 4-4-3 record, including five shutouts. He is currently third in the conference in goals against average (.782) and second in save percentage (.853).

Against RIT All-Time: The Brewers are 3-2-2 against the Tigers all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 2003. Five of the seven games have come down to one goal or less.

A Look At the Statesmen (5-4-3):
  • After starting the season 0-3-1, Hobart has bounced back to go 5-1-2 since Sept. 14.
  • The Statesmen were the first to knock off previously-ranked St. Lawrence with a 1-0 victory on Sept. 24.
  • Freshman defender/midfielder Binjo Emmanuel was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week after notching the game-winning, overtime goal Saturday against Clarkson as well as a game-winning assist against Ithaca on Tuesday.
  • The Statesmen have outshot opponents 161-146 overall, but have been outshot 65-62 in shots-on-goal. Of their 16 total tallies, 12 have been assisted.
  • Opponents have been able to capitalize after the break, as Hobart has surrendered four goals in the first half and 11 in the second.
  • Twelve different Statesmen have scored so far this season, led by JP White, who paces the team with eight points on four goals.
  • Hobart has ten players who have at least one assist on the season. Cooper O'Connell and Clint Dunn lead the team with two assists apiece.
  • Three Statesmen have seen time in the goal this season, but Alec Kaminer has been Hobart's primary keeper. Kaminer has made 33 saves for a 5-1-2 record over eight starts. He holds a .825 save percentage on 93 shots faced.
  • The Statesmen have struggled in comparison to their 2015 campaign, in which they finished 13-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in conference play. They made a first-round exit in the 2015 Liberty League Championship, falling 1-0 to Skidmore on Nov. 3.

Against Hobart All-Time: The Brewers are 4-10-2 versus the Statesmen all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 2000. Vassar has regained momentum in recent years, going 3-2-1 since 2010.
Next Up: The Brewers take a break from conference action when they host University of Rochester on Saturday, Oct. 22. Before the first kick, which is scheduled for 2 p.m., Vassar will honor its five seniors in Noah Bloch, Matt Fields, Stephen Jennings, John Lopes and Adam Warner at Gordon Field.
