Brewers Kick-off 2026 Season At Home Against Montclair State

Brewers begin fifth season under Jonathan Hood Tuesday afternoon

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team will begin its fifth season under Head Coach Jonathan Hood, Ph.D Tuesday afternoon when it plays host to Montclair State at Gordon Field. Live Stats and Video will be available of those unable to attend the 4:30 kick-off with the Red Hawks.
 
At A Glance
  • The Brewers have combined for 24 wins over the last two seasons, including an 11-6-3 overall mark in 2025.
  • Against league rivals, Vassar holds a 20-6-10 record in the previous four seasons under Hood.
  • Vassar will be tasked with replacing its top two goal scorers from a season ago, including 13 tallies from Jared Fiske who was named the Liberty League Player of the Year, Third Team All-American for the second straight season and the Liberty League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
  • Vassar returns three goalkeepers from last season, a trio that posted a 1.40 goals against average and a .711 save percentage while amassing four shutouts.
  • The Brewers outscored their opponents 42-28 in 2025, including by a 17-10 margin in conference games.
  • The Brewers finished the 2025 season atop the Liberty League leaderboard in goals (42), assists (46) and points (130).
  • Vassar featured five All-Liberty League selections in 2025, including a trio of First Team picks.
 
Forward
  • Joshua Lee (Bethlehem, PA) and Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) return for their third and fourth seasons, respectively in 2026.
  • Lee appeared in 15 games, including 13 starts, as a sophomore and has potted three career goals for the Brewers.
  • Torrey, who will also see time in the midfield for Vassar, was limited to only seven games due to injury as a junior. Heading into the 2026 campaign, Torrey has appeared in 44 games for the Brewers and totaled 22 points on the strength of seven goals and eight assists.
  • Sophomore Isaac Taegar (Metuchen, NJ), who also will see time in the midfield, registered nine points after scoring three times and helping on three other goals as a rookie.
  • Also returning for the Brewers in 2026 after being limited by injury as a First Year is sophomore Giovanni Dimauro (Petaluma, CA).
  • Joining the forward group in 2026 are First Years Daniel Matthews (Landenberg, PA) and Jonah Kim (Old Tappan, NJ).
 
Midfield
  • Vassar welcomes back an experienced group in the midfield, inlcuding seven players who saw time on the field in 2025.
  • Senior Koray Tekin (Winter Park, FL) returns to the lineup after seeing time in 10 contests as a junior, including seven starts. Heading into his senior campaign, Tekin has appeared in 47 games and scored one goal while adding five assists.
  • Fellow senior Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) is back after finishing third on the team with 10 points in 2025, registering three goals to go along with four assists. Mejia was tabbed Third Team All-Liberty League for the Brewers.
  • Sophomore Alejandro Martinez (Lake Mary, FL) saw time in 20 contests as a rookie, including 13 starts, scoring three times for the Brewers.
  • Also returning for Vassar are juniors Clement Grossman (Cold Spring, NY), Ken Hoang (Fort Lee, NJ) and Maurizio Margiotta (Rochester, NY) along with sophomore Tristan Hevener (Ardmore, PA).
  • Joining the fold for the 2026 in the midfield are First Years Arata Yamazaki (West Harrison, NY), Rye Young (Chapel Hill, NC), Takaya Newton (Idlewylde, MD) and Jasper Hackett (Rockport, ME).
 
Defense
  • Jackson Allen (Chapel Hill, NC) headlines the defensive unit in 2026 after earning a Second Team All-Liberty League citation in 2025. Allen appeared in 16 games and made 14 starts for the Brewers in 2025 and heading into the season has seen time in 52 games with 48 starts.
  • Junior Caden Clifton (Oviedo, FL) started 19 games as a sophomore a season ago and was second on the team in minutes played with nearly 1,700.
  • Sophomore Zapp Hotz (Ridgewood, NY) was sixth on the team with eight points as a rookie, scoring twice and assisting on four goals in 19 games played.
  • The Brewers also welcome back sophomore Shaun Hauserman (Towson, MD) who appeared in 10 games as a rookie.
  • The Brewers will look to newcomers Jonathan Carter (Nichols Hills, OK) and Matthew Fermin (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) to make an immediate impact starting in the season opener.
 
Goalkeeper
  • Senior Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) started 11 games in goal as a junior and closed he 2025 season with 38 saves and a .717 save percentage to go along with a pair of shutouts. Raphan finished the season with a 6-3-2 record for the Brewers.
  • Junior Quinn Davidson (Mamaroneck, NY) made two starts between the pipes as a sophomore, turning aside four shots and earning one win.
  • Ethan Andrews (Charlotte, NC) returns as a sophomore and looks for his first game action in 2026.
 
Captains
  • Allen and Raphan will serve as the Brewers' captains for the 2026 season.
 
Head Coach
  • Hood will be on the sidelines for his fifth season as the Brewers' mentor in 2026.
  • Hood holds a 41-19-17 overall record over the previous four seasons, including a 20-6-10 mark against Liberty League rivals.
  • Hood has guided the Brewers to two NCAA Tournament appearances, advancing to the Second Round in both 2023 and 2024.
  • Hood headlined the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024.
 
The Schedule
  • The Brewers will contest a challenging non-conference schedule in 2026 that includes home games against Montclair State, Cortland and Messiah.
  • Vassar will travel to Johns Hopkins (9/4), Franklin and Marshall (9/6), New Paltz (9/16), New York University (9/22) and Springfield (10/20) as apart of the non-league slate.
  • Liberty League play begins with a visit from Ithaca (/26) with the home league schedule featuring games against Union (10/14), Hobart (10/17), RPI (10/28) and Clarkson (10/31).
  • Vassar embarks on a challenging three game conference road trip with a visit to Bard (9/30) and continues the trek at RIT (10/3) and at St. Lawrence (10/10).
  • The Brewers will also play a road league tilt at Skidmore (10/24).
  • The 2026 Liberty League Championship starts with the First Round on November 3 and continues with the Semifinals on November 6 and the Championship Final on November 8.
